Pso Volume Profile
Mar 2, 2025

The Pso Volume Profile indicator analyzes price action and volume data to generate a horizontal volume distribution and identify dynamic support and resistance levels based on significant volume nodes. It provides traders with visual clarity on where trading activity is concentrated, highlighting potential reversal or continuation zones through automated level detection.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market structure and volume distribution. The script visualizes volume in two primary ways:
- Volume Profile Visualization: A horizontal histogram appears on the right side of the chart, representing volume across different price zones. The profile distinguishes between bid (buying) and ask (selling) volume, allowing users to see the dominant sentiment at specific price levels.
- Dynamic Support and Resistance: The indicator automatically plots horizontal lines at price levels where volume exceeds a specific percentile threshold. These lines act as potential zones of interest.
- Color-Coded Dominance: The support and resistance lines are colored based on volume composition. Red lines typically represent bid-dominant levels (potential support), while green lines represent ask-dominant levels (potential resistance).
Traders can use higher percentile settings to isolate only the most significant institutional levels, or lower settings to identify more frequent intraday support and resistance zones. Clusters where multiple lines appear in a narrow range often indicate highly significant market areas.
Details
The indicator functions by dividing the total price range within a lookback period into a user-defined number of horizontal zones (rows). For every bar within the lookback, the script calculates how much volume falls into each zone based on the bar's high-low range and close position.
Key implementation details include:
- Volume Partitioning: It uses price action to estimate bid and ask components, assigning volume to specific price zones proportionally.
- Percentile Filtering: Instead of showing all volume nodes, it calculates a percentile-based threshold. Only price zones with a total volume higher than this relative threshold are projected as support or resistance lines.
- Historical Analysis: The script utilizes a lookback period to determine the price boundaries (highest high and lowest low) used to calculate the height of each volume row.
Settings
General Settings
- Periodo di Lookback: Sets the number of bars used to calculate the volume profile and identify price extremes.
- Numero di Barre: Determines the number of horizontal price zones (rows) in the volume profile.
- Percentile Volume per S/R: Defines the threshold (50-100%) for a volume node to be considered a significant support or resistance level.
Visual Settings
- Colore Volume Bid (Acquisti): Sets the color for buying volume in the profile histogram.
- Colore Volume Ask (Vendite): Sets the color for selling volume in the profile histogram.
- Colore Linee S/R Bid Dominante: Sets the color for lines where buying volume was the majority.
- Colore Linee S/R Ask Dominante: Sets the color for lines where selling volume was the majority.
- Larghezza Profilo: Adjusts the horizontal width of the volume profile display.
- Opacità: Controls the transparency of the volume profile boxes.
- Distanza dal bordo destro: Adjusts the horizontal offset of the profile from the price scale.
- Lunghezza linee S/R: Sets the length of the projected support and resistance lines across the chart.
FAQ
How do I interpret the colors of the support and resistance lines? Lines are colored based on the dominant volume type at that level. A bid-dominant color suggests a price level where buyers were more aggressive, whereas an ask-dominant color indicates a level where sellers were more active.
Why are some support/resistance lines disappearing or moving? The indicator is dynamic and recalculates based on the specified lookback period. As new bars form and old bars leave the lookback window, the volume distribution and the resulting percentile threshold change to reflect the most recent market activity.
