The PIP COLLECTOR - REPAINT FIX w/ ALERTS indicator provides non-repainting buy and sell signals based on multi-timeframe Exponential Moving Average (EMA) synchronization.

Usage

The indicator is designed to identify momentum shifts by analyzing price action across three distinct timeframes. When price is consistently above or below the center EMA across all selected timeframes, a trend is established.

  • Long Signals: Occur when the source price is above the EMA on all three user-defined timeframes simultaneously, following a bearish period.
  • Short Signals: Occur when the source price is below the EMA on all three user-defined timeframes simultaneously, following a bullish period.

For best results, it is recommended to use the 1-minute timeframe to gauge precise entries or trend flips, while higher timeframes help filter for more significant market moves. The indicator is particularly effective on liquid stocks and currency pairs. Because the signals are confirmed and do not repaint, they are suitable for live trading environments where entry timing is critical.

Details

This script is a modified version of the "Pip collector" concept originally introduced by LazyBear. The core logic has been refactored to eliminate repainting issues associated with higher timeframe requests by using specific logic to ensure signals only trigger once the conditions are locked in.

The mechanism relies on checking the relationship between price and a central EMA across three user-defined timeframes (defaulting to Daily, 4-hour, and 1-hour). The calculation uses request.security to pull data from these timeframes. A signal is generated only when a "flip" occurs—meaning all timeframes align in one direction after previously being aligned in the opposite direction.

Settings

  • Source: Determines the price data used for EMA calculations (default is Close).
  • Timeframe 1/2/3: Allows the user to select the three different timeframes used for trend synchronization.
  • Center EMA Length: The lookback period for the central Exponential Moving Average.
  • Distance of lower line from center (pips): Used to define the offset for the lower boundary calculation.
  • Distance of upper line from center (pips): Used to define the offset for the upper boundary calculation.
  • Background color on all EMA synch?: Toggles a background highlight when all timeframes are in agreement, even if a new signal hasn't just triggered.

FAQ

How do I use the signals for trading?

Signals appear as columns in the indicator pane. A green column represents a "Flip to Long" and a red column represents a "Flip to Short." These are best used in liquid markets with a clear exit strategy.

Does this indicator repaint?

No, the logic has been specifically modified to ensure that once a signal is generated at the close of a bar, it will not disappear or move.
