The FRAMA Matrix RSI indicator is a momentum-based tool that integrates the Relative Strength Index (RSI) with the Fractal Adaptive Moving Average (FRAMA) to provide refined, adaptive market analysis. By applying adaptive smoothing to the RSI and optionally layering a Zero-Lag Moving Average (ZLMA), this script creates a responsive oscillator designed to reduce noise while preserving trend sensitivity.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify momentum shifts, trend exhaustion, and potential reversals. Traders can interpret the oscillator through several key features:

  • Threshold Analysis: The core FRAMA RSI value is compared against a user-defined threshold (default 50). Values above this level indicate bullish momentum, while values below indicate bearish conditions.
  • Signal Generation: Users can choose between ZLMA-based or FRAMA RSI-based signals. "Buy" signals typically occur when the oscillator crosses out of the oversold zone (30), and "Sell" signals occur when it crosses out of the overbought zone (70).
  • Divergence Detection: The script automatically identifies bullish and bearish divergences between price action and the FRAMA RSI pivots, highlighting potential trend fatigue.
  • Reversal Labels: When standard RSI reaches extreme levels and is confirmed by the FRAMA smoothing, "Potential Reversal" labels appear to mark exhaustion points.
  • Bar Coloring: The chart visuals can be enhanced by coloring price bars based on thresholds, crossovers, or specific trading signals to improve situational awareness.

Details

Traditional RSI can be overly sensitive to price noise, leading to whipsaws. This script addresses this by using the FRAMA algorithm, which adjusts its smoothing factor based on the fractal dimension of the price data. In periods of high volatility or clear trends, the smoothing factor adapts to be more responsive (less lag). During ranging or choppy markets, the smoothing increases to filter out false signals. The inclusion of a Zero-Lag Moving Average (ZLMA) further refines the output by providing a secondary, smoother line that follows the adaptive RSI without the significant delay associated with traditional moving averages.

Settings

Core Inputs

  • RSI Length: The lookback period for the base RSI calculation.
  • FRAMA Lookback: The window used to calculate the fractal dimension and adaptive smoothing.
  • Alpha Coefficient: Controls the sensitivity of the adaptive smoothing factor.
  • RSI Bull Threshold: The midpoint level used to distinguish between bullish and bearish regimes.
  • Noise Filter: A minimum requirement for threshold crosses to prevent false signals from minor fluctuations.

Features & Visualization

  • Signal Options: Choose between "ZLMA" or "FRAMA RSI" as the trigger for primary buy/sell labels.
  • Enable Divergence Detection: Toggles the display of divergence labels on the chart.
  • Show Potential Reversal Signals: Toggles labels for overbought/oversold exhaustion points.
  • Bar Coloring Option: Select the logic used to color price bars (Threshold, Crossover, Signals, etc.).
  • Show Internal Stats Table: Displays real-time data including fractal dimension and the current alpha value.

FAQ

How do I use the divergence signals?

Divergence signals appear when the price makes a new extreme that is not confirmed by the FRAMA RSI. This often suggests that the current trend is losing momentum and a reversal may be imminent.

What is the difference between ZLMA and FRAMA RSI signals?

ZLMA signals use a secondarily smoothed line to trigger entries, which can be more stable. FRAMA RSI signals react more directly to the adaptive oscillator itself, which may be faster but slightly more sensitive.
