Larry Williams Qualified Trend Break Signals
Jan 23, 2026

The Larry Williams Qualified Trend Break Signals indicator is an entry timing tool that implements the Qualified Trend Line Break technique, designed to identify high-probability entry points after a market setup has been established. It qualifications trend line breaks using specific price action rules to filter out false signals and improve timing precision.
Usage
The indicator is specifically designed as an entry timing tool rather than a standalone signal generator. It should be used within a multi-step trading methodology:
- Weekly Analysis: Establish the overall market bias (bullish or bearish) on the weekly timeframe.
- Daily Confirmation: Look for confirmation signals on the daily timeframe.
- Trend Break Entry: Use the qualified signals to time your entry in the direction of the established bias.
The script automatically connects the two most recent declining swing highs for buy signals and the two most recent rising swing lows for sell signals. A key feature of this system is that trend breaks occurring on inside bars are ignored, as these are considered less reliable.
Details
The system enhances standard trend line analysis through a specific qualification methodology:
Buy Signal Qualification (Breaking Downtrend Lines):
- A break is typically disqualified if the previous bar closed higher.
- However, it can remain qualified if:
- The previous bar was an inside bar and the bar before it closed lower.
- Price gaps above the trend line and moves higher.
- The previous bar closed below its opening price.
Sell Signal Qualification (Breaking Uptrend Lines):
- A break is typically disqualified if the previous bar closed lower.
- However, it can remain qualified if:
- The previous bar was an inside bar and the bar before it closed higher.
- Price gaps below the trend line and moves lower.
- The previous bar closed above its opening price.

FAQ
How do I interpret a disqualified signal? Disqualified signals appear as gray "X" markers when the "Show Disqualified" setting is active. These represent trend line breaks that failed to meet Larry Williams' specific qualification rules, helping traders avoid low-probability entries.
Why are some trend line breaks not showing a signal? The indicator ignores any breaks that occur on an inside bar, as these lack the momentum required by the qualification methodology. Additionally, if a break does not meet the specific qualification rules regarding previous bar closes or gaps, it will not trigger a signal.
