The K's Reversal Indicator I indicator is a contrarian technical tool designed to identify potential trend reversals by combining Bollinger Bands and the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator.

Usage

The K's Reversal Indicator I is best utilized in sideways or ranging markets where price mean reversion is more likely. Traders can use the generated signals to confirm a bias within a established trading range.

  • Buy Signal: A bullish triangle appears when the price is below the lower Bollinger Band and a bullish MACD crossover occurs (MACD line crosses above the signal line).
  • Sell Signal: A bearish triangle appears when the price is above the upper Bollinger Band and a bearish MACD crossover occurs (MACD line crosses below the signal line).

Note that the indicator does not provide specific exit rules; users should combine these signals with other forms of technical analysis, such as support and resistance levels or trailing stops, to manage trades effectively.

Details

The indicator looks for specific exhaustion points where price has deviated significantly from its mean (using Bollinger Bands) while momentum shifts in the opposite direction (using MACD). By requiring both conditions to be met, it filters out basic Bollinger Band touches that might occur during strong trending phases without a corresponding momentum shift.

The signals are based on the previous bar's closing data to ensure the conditions are fully met before a shape is plotted on the chart.

Settings

  • Fast: The lookback period for the fast Exponential Moving Average (EMA) used in the MACD calculation.
  • Slow: The lookback period for the slow Exponential Moving Average (EMA) used in the MACD calculation.
  • Signal: The smoothing period for the MACD signal line.
  • Bollinger Lookback: The period used to calculate the Simple Moving Average and standard deviation for the Bollinger Bands.
  • Multiplier: The standard deviation multiplier that determines the width of the Bollinger Bands.

FAQ

How do I use the signals in a trending market?

The indicator is primarily designed for mean reversion in ranging markets. In strong trends, it is recommended to only take signals that align with the higher-timeframe trend or use additional filters to avoid false contrarian entries.

Does this indicator provide take-profit or stop-loss levels?

While the script plots horizontal reference lines upon a signal, it does not provide dynamic exit rules. Users should define their own exit strategy based on market volatility or structural levels.
