The Advanced Support & Resistance - Volume Zones indicator identifies potential support and resistance areas by detecting high-volume pivot points and converting them into visual price zones. It helps highlight areas where significant buying or selling pressure has previously occurred, automatically adjusting zone parameters based on current market conditions and timeframes.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify key market interest levels. Users can observe high-volume zones to determine where price may react or reverse.

  • Zone Identification: When unusual volume appears at a local high or low, the tool generates a horizontal zone. Support zones are typically green, while resistance zones are red.
  • Role Reversal: If the price breaks through a support zone, the script can automatically flip its role to resistance (and vice versa), reflecting the "broken support becomes resistance" principle.
  • Timeframe Scaling: On smaller timeframes (like 1-second or 1-minute charts), the script scales down the zone thickness, while on daily charts, it expands them to remain proportional to price action.
  • Price-Action Swing Lines: For traders who want to see structure even without volume spikes, the script can plot optional swing lines at significant pivots that haven't triggered a volume zone.

Details

The script utilizes a volume-weighted approach to technical analysis. Instead of relying solely on price peaks, it calculates the average volume over a specified lookback period. A zone is only created if a pivot occurs simultaneously with a volume spike exceeding the user-defined multiplier.

The "Auto Tune" logic calculates volume sensitivity, merge ranges, and zone age dynamically. This ensures that the indicator remains relevant whether trading high-volatility assets or stable ones. The merging feature prevents chart clutter by combining new volume pivots into existing nearby zones if they fall within a specific percentage threshold.

Settings

Zone Settings

  • Auto Tune Zone Settings: When enabled, the lookback, multiplier, age, and merge range are calculated automatically based on market activity.
  • Volume Lookback Length: The number of bars used to establish the average volume baseline.
  • Volume Spike Multiplier: The threshold (e.g., 1.5x average) required to trigger a new volume zone.
  • Max Zone Age (Bars): The lifespan of a zone before it is removed from the chart.
  • Volume Zone Merge Range %: The maximum distance between two levels to consider them part of the same zone.

Zone Appearance

  • Auto Tune Zone Appearance: Automatically scales zone thickness based on the chart's timeframe.
  • Zone Widths are Based Upon Volume: Adjusts the vertical thickness of zones relative to the volume intensity of the pivot.
  • Zone Fill/Border Colors: Customizable colors and opacity for both support and resistance zones.

Price Action & Graphics

  • Show Price-Action Swing Lines: Draws simple lines at pivots that do not meet the volume requirements.
  • Swing Pivot Left/Right Bars: The number of bars required to confirm a swing high or low.
  • Show Volume Text: Displays the accumulated volume labels next to active zones.
  • Show Current Volume Status: Displays a dashboard showing current volume, relative volume, and conditions (e.g., "Volume Spike").

FAQ

How does the indicator determine if a zone is "Support" or "Resistance"? The indicator identifies local pivot highs with high volume as resistance and local pivot lows with high volume as support. These zones can flip roles if the price decisively breaks through them.

What is the benefit of Auto Tune? Auto Tune removes the need for manual adjustment when switching between different assets or timeframes, ensuring that the sensitivity of volume detection and the visual scale of the zones remain consistent.
