The Price and Volume Divergence Analyzer indicator identifies divergences between price action and volume-based metrics to help traders predict potential market reversals. By analyzing the relationship between buying/selling volume and price efficiency, the tool highlights areas where market momentum may be fading or building.

Usage

The tool is primarily used to spot reversals by comparing price trends with volume dynamics.

  • Bullish Reversal: If price is falling while the volume line is rising, it indicates buyers are stepping in, suggesting a potential move upward.
  • Bearish Reversal: If price is rising while the volume line is falling, it indicates sellers are offloading to buyers, suggesting a potential move downward.
  • Volume Efficiency: The Higher/Lower Volume Movement Line measures how much volume is required to move the price. Values above the volume line suggest efficient movement, while values below indicate inefficiency.
  • Candle Coloring: The indicator uses shaded fills based on price close relative to the previous close, providing a visual representation of momentum directly in the oscillator pane.

Details

The indicator utilizes Lower Timeframe (LTF) data to provide more granular volume analysis. By looking "inside" a single bar using higher-frequency data (like 1-second or 1-minute intervals), it can more accurately determine if volume was associated with buying or selling pressure based on intraday price movement. It employs Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) to smooth these volume values, helping to filter out market noise and highlight significant trends in accumulation or distribution.

Settings

Timeframe Selection

  • Timeframe Selector: Choose between free or premium account timeframe presets to optimize data granularity.
  • TF1-TF10: Individual timeframe selectors used to pull lower timeframe data for the volume calculation.

Moving Average Settings

  • Top/Bottom MA Length: Adjusts the smoothing period for the primary and secondary volume oscillators. The "Top" MA is often kept short to see immediate volume, while the "Bottom" MA is used for longer-term trends.
  • Calculation Type: Users can select between standard EMA or a triple-smoothed EMA for greater signal stability.

Percent Ranks

  • Low/High Volume Colors: Toggle visibility and colors for shapes indicating when volume reaches extreme percent rank levels (e.g., bottom 5% or top 95%).
  • Body Size Limit: Filters for "High Volume Small Body" signals, which can indicate heavy absorption or market indecision.

Appearance

  • Candle Colors: Customize colors for Up and Down volume candles.
  • Balance Line: Adjust the appearance of the zero-level equilibrium line.

FAQ

How do I use this to spot a reversal? Look for "Divergence": if price makes a new high but the volume line makes a lower high, it suggests the move lacks genuine buying support and may reverse.

What does a "High Volume Small Body" label mean? This indicates that a significant amount of volume occurred during the candle, but the price barely moved. This often suggests a battle between buyers and sellers where one side is absorbing the other's orders.
