The Mandelbrot-Fibonacci Cascade Vortex (MFCV) indicator is a comprehensive technical analysis tool that synthesizes fractal mathematics and Fibonacci sequences to reveal the hidden mathematical structure of market movements. By integrating the Hurst exponent with golden ratio-based volatility bands, it provides traders with a multi-dimensional view of market regimes, complexity, and potential reversal zones.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market conditions and potential trade entries.

Trend Following

When the Hurst exponent is high (>0.65), it indicates a strong, persistent trend. Traders can follow the direction of the cascade bands and use the vortex spirals to time entries during pullbacks.

Mean Reversion

A low Hurst exponent (<0.35) signals that the market is in an anti-persistent, mean-reverting state. In these conditions, traders can look for price to return toward the vortex spiral convergence points.

Confluence Trading

By enabling the "Highlight Confluence" setting, the indicator identifies areas where vortex spirals and cascade levels overlap. These zones often act as high-probability support or resistance levels for reversal trades.

Details

The MFCV is built upon Benoit Mandelbrot's Fractal Market Hypothesis, which suggests that markets are self-similar across all timeframes.

Hurst Exponent and Fractal Dimension

The tool calculates the Hurst exponent (H) to measure market memory. A value of H > 0.5 indicates trending behavior, H = 0.5 represents a random walk, and H < 0.5 suggests mean reversion. The Fractal Dimension (D = 2 - H) quantifies market complexity.

Fibonacci Vortex Theory

The indicator generates five independent spiral oscillators based on Fibonacci periods (e.g., 8, 13, 21, 34, 55). These spirals expand and contract based on market energy and volume, revealing the non-linear "spiraling" nature of price action.

Volatility Cascade

The system implements cascading volatility bands spaced using the golden ratio (φ = 1.618). This creates a harmonic resonance between levels, representing different fractal scales of market volatility.

Settings

Mandelbrot Cascade Parameters

  • Cascade Levels: Adjusts the number of volatility bands (3 to 8).
  • Hurst Exponent Period: Sets the lookback period for fractal calculations (20 to 200).
  • Cascade Ratio: Determines the width multiplier between bands, default is 1.618.
  • Fractal Memory: Defines the lookback for Fibonacci retracements.

Fibonacci Vortex Settings

  • Spiral Periods: A comma-separated list of Fibonacci numbers for the spiral layers.
  • Rotation Speed: Controls the oscillation frequency of the spirals.
  • Volume Amplification: Enables volume-based dynamic expansion of the spirals.
  • Fib Update Frequency: Sets how often Fibonacci levels are recalculated.

Visual & Dashboard Settings

  • Visual Toggles: Show or hide cascade bands, vortex spirals, and Fibonacci levels.
  • Display Style: Choose between Lines, Circles, or Crosses for the vortex oscillators.
  • Dashboard Toggles: Enable or disable the Fractal Dashboard and Vortex Metrics panel.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Hurst Exponent on the dashboard?

A value above 0.5 suggests a trending market, while a value below 0.5 suggests a ranging or mean-reverting environment. Values near 0.5 indicate noise or a random walk.

What is the purpose of the Volume Amplification setting?

It allows the vortex spirals to expand more significantly when volume is higher than average, making the indicator more responsive during high-activity periods in stocks or crypto.
