Multiple Bollinger Bands Candles V0
Jul 4, 2015

The Multiple Bollinger Bands Candles indicator provides a unique visualization of price and range strength by aggregating multiple Bollinger Band lengths into a candle-based format. This tool helps traders identify potential trend shifts and volatility zones by consolidating different lookback periods into upper and lower band "envelopes."
Usage
The Multiple Bollinger Bands Candles can be used to gauge the expansion or contraction of volatility across multiple timeframes simultaneously.
- Trend Identification: The color of the candles (Green for rising, Red for falling) indicates the direction of the band's movement. If the upper candles are green and rising, it suggests strengthening bullish momentum or expanding upper range limits.
- Volatility Zones: The "wicks" of these candles represent the distance between the most extreme and least extreme band values of the four lengths. A large candle body/wick suggests a high disparity between short-term and long-term volatility.
- Reversal Potential: When the band candles change color from green to red at an extreme, it may signal a local top or a reduction in range expansion.
Details
The indicator calculates four separate Bollinger Bands using different lengths (default: 4, 8, 16, 32). Instead of plotting lines, it constructs two sets of candle plots:
- Upper Band Candles: The High is the maximum of the four upper bands; the Low is the minimum of the four upper bands. The Close is the maximum of the four midlines (SMAs).
- Lower Band Candles: The High is the maximum of the four lower bands; the Low is the minimum of the four lower bands. The Close is the minimum of the four midlines (SMAs).
The "Open" of each candle is derived from the previous bar's "Close," creating a continuous visual flow that highlights the path of the bands.
Settings
- Length 0 - 3: Determines the lookback periods for the four internal Bollinger Bands. Increasing these values will make the candles more reactive to long-term trends rather than short-term fluctuations.
- Source: The price data used for calculations (default is Close).
- Multiplier: The standard deviation multiplier applied to all four bands. Higher values widen the gap between the upper and lower candle sets.
FAQ
How do I interpret the candle colors?
The colors are based on the direction of the "Close" value (the extreme midline). Green signifies a rising value, while red signifies a falling value, helping you spot directional shifts in the bands.
Can I change the sensitivity of the bands?
Yes, you can adjust the four Length inputs to capture different periodicities, or modify the Multiplier to expand or contract the overall width of the bands.
