The AI Volume Signals indicator identifies potential market entry points by detecting significant volume spikes aligned with trend direction and price action. It utilizes an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) filter to isolate abnormal volume activity, ensuring signals are generated only when market momentum is high and confirmed by the prevailing trend.

Usage

The tool is designed to identify high-conviction momentum entries. A signal is triggered when the volume exceeds its average by a specific multiplier, provided the price is on the correct side of the trend filter and the current candle color matches the trade direction.

  • Buy Signals: Occur when a volume spike is detected while the price is above the 50-period EMA and the current candle is bullish. These appear as green "BUY" labels below the bar.
  • Sell Signals: Occur when a volume spike is detected while the price is below the 50-period EMA and the current candle is bearish. These appear as red "SELL" labels above the bar.

Traders can use these signals to enter momentum trades or as confirmation for existing strategies. The optional Volume EMA line can be enabled to visually track the baseline volume against which spikes are measured.

Details

The script operates on three primary layers of confluence:

  1. Volume Spike Detection: Uses an EMA of volume (default 20 periods). A "spike" is defined as any volume value that exceeds this EMA multiplied by the user-defined threshold.
  2. Trend Filtering: Uses a 50-period price EMA. This ensures users are not trading against the primary intermediate-term trend.
  3. Price Action Confirmation: Requires the candle to close in the direction of the trade (bullish for buys, bearish for sells) to prevent entering on "exhaustion" spikes that fail to maintain direction.

Settings

  • Volume EMA Length: Sets the period for the volume's Exponential Moving Average used for spike detection.
  • Multiplier (for spike detection): Determines how much higher the current volume must be compared to its EMA to trigger a signal.
  • Show Volume EMA: Toggles the visibility of the Volume EMA line on the price chart.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Multiplier setting?

The Multiplier defines the sensitivity of the volume detection. A higher multiplier will result in fewer, more significant signals, while a lower multiplier will trigger more frequent signals on smaller volume increases.

Can I use this for trend reversal?

This indicator is primarily a trend-following tool as it uses a 50-period EMA to filter signals. Signals are intended to capture momentum continuation rather than picking tops or bottoms.
