The Phoenix B-Bands indicator tool provides a multi-band Bollinger Band framework designed to identify potential price targets and volatility zones using various Fibonacci-based standard deviation multipliers. By plotting multiple bands simultaneously, it offers a more nuanced view of price expansion and contraction compared to standard Bollinger Bands.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify key support and resistance levels based on statistical deviations from the mean (the yellow basis line).

  • Trend Identification: When price action remains between the aqua (1.618) and orange (2.618) upper bands, it suggests a strong bullish expansion. Conversely, remaining between the aqua and orange lower bands suggests a strong bearish expansion.
  • Mean Reversion: A return to the yellow basis line (20-period SMA) often occurs when price momentum stalls at the outer bands.
  • Volatility Analysis: The "Spread %" labels indicate the percentage distance between specific bands, helping traders quantify the current volatility and potential reward-to-risk for mean reversion or breakout trades.

Details

This script implements a series of Bollinger Bands calculated from a single basis length (defaulting to 20). It uses multiple standard deviation multipliers, including Fibonacci ratios such as 0.618, 1.618, 2.618, 3.618, and 4.618.

The tool includes a visualization feature that displays the percentage spread between different band layers directly on the chart. These spreads can also be color-filled based on a user-defined threshold, allowing for quick visual identification of extreme volatility conditions.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Basis Length: The lookback period for the Simple Moving Average (SMA) and Standard Deviation calculation.
  • Source: The price data used for calculations (default is Close).
  • Offset: Shifts the bands forward or backward on the X-axis.

Multipliers

  • StdDev 1.0 - 4.618: Adjustable fields to change the standard deviation multipliers for each color-coded band layer.

Spread Visualization

  • Show %: Toggles the visibility of the percentage spread labels for specific band gaps (e.g., Inner Upper/Lower, Aqua/Orange).
  • Fill Spread %: Enables a background fill when the spread exceeds the specified threshold.
  • Threshold: The percentage value that triggers the spread fill visualization.
  • Spread % Font Size: Controls the size of the on-chart percentage labels.

FAQ

How do I interpret the percentage labels? The labels show the percentage distance between two specific bands. The up arrow (⇑) represents the percentage relative to the lower band, and the down arrow (⇓) represents the percentage relative to the upper band.

Can I use this for scalping or swing trading? Yes, the indicator is versatile and can be applied to any timeframe. Higher timeframes typically provide more significant support/resistance levels, while lower timeframes are useful for timing entries during volatility expansion.
