RSI Top & Bottom Warning
Aug 10, 2019

The RSI Top & Bottom Warning indicator identifies potential market reversals by projecting Relative Strength Index (RSI) extremes from a higher timeframe directly onto the price chart. This tool helps traders spot significant cyclical highs and lows by utilizing multi-timeframe analysis to filter out lower-timeframe noise.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying overextended market conditions using higher-timeframe data. When the RSI calculated from the selected resolution (defaulting to Weekly) crosses the defined thresholds, labels are plotted on the chart.
- Bottom Warnings: Appear when the RSI crosses below the bottom threshold, suggesting a potential undervalued state or price floor.
- Top Warnings: Appear when the RSI crosses above the top threshold, indicating a potential overvalued state or price ceiling.
Traders can use these signals to anticipate major trend shifts or to validate long-term accumulation and distribution zones. While the default settings are optimized for high-volatility assets like BTC, the parameters can be adjusted to suit different symbols.
Details
This indicator functions by calculating the RSI on a specific resolution—regardless of the timeframe currently displayed on the chart—using the request.security function. By default, it looks at the Weekly ("W") timeframe. This approach ensures that the signals reflect broad market sentiment and long-term momentum.
The logic detects "crosses" relative to the input thresholds. A "Bottom" signal triggers when the RSI value crosses under the bottom threshold, while a "Top" signal triggers when it crosses over the top threshold.
Settings
- Length: Sets the lookback period for the RSI calculation (default is 14).
- Resolution: Determines the higher timeframe from which the RSI data is pulled (default is Weekly).
- Top: The RSI level used to trigger top warning signals (default is 88).
- Bottom: The RSI level used to trigger bottom warning signals (default is 30).
