The SuperTrend Fusion — Trend + Momentum + Volatility Filter indicator is a multi-factor trend-filtering tool that enhances the classic SuperTrend by combining trend direction, momentum confirmation, and volatility filtering into a single unified system.

Usage

The SuperTrend Fusion provides a cleaner approach to trend following by validating SuperTrend signals through additional layers of market analysis. A primary signal is generated when the following conditions align:

  • Long Signal: The SuperTrend flips to an uptrend while the momentum filter (Average Force) is positive and the market is below the choppiness threshold.
  • Short Signal: The SuperTrend flips to a downtrend while the momentum filter is negative and the market is trending (low choppiness).

The indicator visually distinguishes between "valid" fusion signals and "filtered" signals. Valid entries are marked with triangles and colored bars, while filtered signals (where SuperTrend flipped but momentum or volatility did not align) are marked with subtle "X" icons. Users can toggle specific filters in the settings to customize the sensitivity of the system.

Details

This tool integrates three distinct market dimensions to reduce false signals:

  • Trend Direction: Uses the standard ATR-based SuperTrend formula to establish the market bias.
  • Momentum Confirmation: Utilizes an adapted "Average Force" calculation that measures price position relative to recent highs and lows, smoothed to capture directional pressure.
  • Volatility Filtering: Employs the Choppiness Index to detect sideways markets. This ensures signals are only prioritized when the market exhibits a clear directional structure rather than random noise.

Settings

SuperTrend – Trend

  • ATR Length: The lookback period used for the Average True Range calculation.
  • Factor: The multiplier applied to the ATR to determine the distance of the trend bands from the price.

Average Force – Momentum

  • Use AF Filter: Enables or disables the momentum validation for signals.
  • AF Period: The lookback period for calculating directional pressure.
  • AF Smooth: The smoothing length applied to the momentum calculation to reduce noise.

Choppiness Index – Volatility

  • Use Chop Filter: Enables or disables the choppiness filter.
  • Chop Length: The period used to calculate the Choppiness Index.
  • Chop Threshold: The level above which the market is considered "choppy" (sideways). Signals are filtered out when the index exceeds this value.

FAQ

How do I use the "X" markers on the chart?

The "X" markers indicate where a standard SuperTrend reversal occurred but was rejected by your momentum or volatility filters. These can be used to identify potential "fakeouts" or zones where the trend lacks sufficient strength to continue.

Can I use this for automated alerts?

Yes, the indicator includes specific alert conditions for Fusion Long/Short entries, filtered signals, and raw SuperTrend flips, allowing you to integrate it into your monitoring workflow.
