The Simple Dominance Momentum Indicator tool is a specialized market analysis utility designed to track cryptocurrency dominance trends by automatically plotting the relevant dominance data for the active trading pair. It helps traders identify capital rotation by visualizing whether money is flowing into specific assets or stablecoins, complemented by exponential moving averages to gauge momentum.

Usage

The indicator simplifies the process of tracking market dominance by automatically switching the displayed data based on the current chart's currency. If you are viewing a USDT, USDC, or DAI pair, the tool displays the combined dominance of major stablecoins. If viewing a BTC, ETH, or BNB pair, it switches to the respective asset's dominance chart (e.g., BTC.D).

Key interpretations include:

  • Stablecoin Dominance: Traditionally, rising stablecoin dominance (Up) suggests market weakness as capital moves to safety, while falling dominance (Down) suggests market strength. Users can invert the scale if they prefer the plot to move in the same direction as the price action.
  • Asset Dominance: For individual cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, increasing dominance typically indicates growing market share and relative strength compared to the rest of the market.
  • EMA Crossovers: The tool includes a 21-period EMA and a 55-period Trend EMA. A crossover of the faster EMA above the slower EMA indicates a momentum shift in dominance, which is often more reliable on higher timeframes.

Details

The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch data from CryptoCap indices. It features dynamic logic that detects the syminfo.currency of the active chart to determine which dominance ticker to pull. This eliminates the manual effort of opening separate panes or manually typing formulas like "USDT.D+USDC.D+DAI.D". The implementation uses exponential moving averages (EMA) to smooth the dominance data, providing a clearer view of the trend compared to raw volatility.

Settings

Main Settings

  • EMA Length: Determines the period for the fast-moving average (default is 21).
  • Trend EMA Length: Determines the period for the slow-moving trend average (default is 55).
