Details
The Stochastic Momentum Index (SMI) was developed by William Blau as an improvement over the traditional Stochastic Oscillator. While the standard stochastic measures the current close relative to the high/low range, the SMI measures the distance of the current close relative to the median of the high/low range. This results in a value that oscillates between -100 and 100, providing a clearer view of momentum strength. In this implementation, the logic is applied to the DMI, creating a "secondary derivative" indicator that captures the momentum of the trend strength itself.
