The Volume-based Support & Resistance Zones indicator identifies significant price levels by combining fractal high/low detection with relative volume spikes to visualize institutional supply and demand zones. It helps traders distinguish high-probability reversal and continuation points by mapping zones based on candle wick dimensions across multiple timeframes.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying price levels where high-volume activity suggests strong market interest. Traders can use these zones to anticipate potential trend reversals or confirm breakouts when a zone is breached and re-tested.

  • Zone Identification: Resistance zones are formed at fractal highs with volume exceeding a specified Moving Average, while support zones form at fractal lows under similar high-volume conditions.
  • Visual Interpretation: The width of each zone is determined by the distance between the fractal high/low and the candle's closing price. Larger zones often signify more substantial historical price rejection.
  • Multi-Timeframe Analysis: The tool allows for up to four different timeframes to be displayed simultaneously. Users can observe how lower timeframe price action reacts to higher timeframe (HTF) zones. To maintain chart clarity, the script automatically hides lower timeframe zones when viewing the chart on a higher timeframe.
  • Active vs. Historical Zones: Users can extend active zones to the far right of the chart for real-time tracking or link historical zones sequentially to visualize the evolution of support and resistance.

Details

The script's logic is rooted in the concept that significant price pivots accompanied by high volume represent areas of high liquidity.

  • Fractal Logic: A fractal high is confirmed by three successive higher highs followed by two successive lower highs. Conversely, a fractal low requires three successive lower lows followed by two successive higher lows.
  • Volume Filter: Only fractals that occur on a candle where volume "pierces" above the volume Moving Average (threshold adjustable per timeframe) are considered valid for zone creation.
  • Optimization: The script utilizes arrays to manage boxes, lines, and labels. This ensures that the indicator remains within platform memory limits while allowing users to customize the number of historical zones (up to 100 per timeframe) displayed on the chart.
  • Refinement: Modifications from the original logic include improved coordinate precision for HTF zones, ensuring they align exactly with historical price peaks/troughs regardless of the current chart's resolution.

Settings

General Settings

  • Extend all S/R Zones to Next Zone: When enabled, previous zones extend until a new zone is formed on that timeframe.
  • Extend active S/R Zones to Right: Extends currently active (unbroken) zones to the infinite right of the chart.
  • Show Time Frame Label: Toggles text labels identifying the source timeframe of the zone.
  • Label Location / Offset: Controls the horizontal placement and padding of timeframe labels.
  • Show High/Low & Open/Close Lines: Individually toggles the lines representing the candle wicks (H/L) and bodies (O/C).
  • Line Style / Width: Customizes the visual appearance (Solid, Dotted, Dashed) and thickness of the zone boundaries.

Time Frame (1-4) Settings

  • Display Mode: Choose between "S/R" (lines only), "S/R Zones" (filled boxes), or "Disable" for each timeframe.
  • Time Frame Selection: Sets the specific timeframe (e.g., 1h, 4h, Daily) for calculation.
  • Volume MA Threshold: Adjusts the sensitivity of the volume filter; higher values require more significant volume spikes to trigger a zone.
  • Number of Zones Back: Limits the number of support and resistance areas kept in history to manage performance.
  • Color Settings: Independent color and transparency pickers for resistance and support lines/fills.
  • Alerts: Dropdown menu to select trigger conditions such as "Price Enters Zone," "Price Breaks Zone," or "New Zone Found."

FAQ

How do I set up alerts for specific price levels? First, select the desired alert type in the indicator settings for the specific timeframe. After applying settings, right-click the indicator on your chart and select "Add Alert on Volume-based Support & Resistance Zones."

Why are some zones disappearing when I change timeframes? The script includes a cleanup function that automatically hides zones from lower timeframes when you switch to a higher timeframe chart to prevent visual clutter.
