Auto Support Resistance Channels Top/Down Signal
Apr 17, 2025

The Auto Support Resistance Channels Top/Down Signal tool automatically identifies and plots dynamic price channels based on major and minor pivot points to help traders visualize trend structures and potential breakout zones.
Usage
The Usage section describes how this indicator can be applied to various market conditions. By identifying parallel trendlines, the script highlights zones where price is likely to find support or resistance.
- Up Channels: In a bullish environment, the indicator plots upward-sloping parallel lines. Traders can look for long opportunities near the lower support line and potential profit-taking zones near the upper resistance line.
- Down Channels: In a bearish environment, downward-sloping channels are identified. Entry points for short positions typically occur near the upper boundary, with targets set near the lower boundary.
- Range Channels: During periods of consolidation, horizontal channels appear. These are useful for mean-reversion strategies, where traders buy at the bottom and sell at the top of the range.
- Major vs. Minor: Major channels represent higher-timeframe or more significant trend structures, while minor channels capture short-term fluctuations or corrective movements within a larger trend.
Details
The script utilizes a pivot-based algorithm to detect swings in price action. A "Major" channel is constructed using more significant pivot points, offering a robust view of the prevailing trend. "Minor" channels use more sensitive pivot settings to capture localized price action. The tool also distinguishes between "Internal" and "External" channels, providing multiple layers of support and resistance. When a price breakout occurs, the indicator can signal a potential shift in market structure or the start of a new trend extension.
Settings
Zig Zag Logic
- Pivot Period: Defines the sensitivity of channel detection. Higher values identify major pivot points for long-term channels, while lower values focus on minor pivots for short-term structures.
Alert
- Alert Name: Customizes the header for triggered alerts.
- Message Frequency: Determines how often alerts trigger (All, Once Per Bar, or Per Bar Close).
- Show Alert time by Time Zone: Sets the timestamp format for notifications.
- Channel Specific Alerts: Options to enable/disable "Break" alerts (price crossing a boundary) or "React" alerts (price bouncing off a boundary) for all 8 channel variations.
Display Settings
Each channel type (Major/Minor, Internal/External, Up/Down) includes the following:
- Show Channel: Toggles visibility of the specific channel type.
- Delete Previous: When enabled, only the most recent channel of that type is shown.
- Color/Style/Width: Customizes the visual appearance of the trendlines.
- Extend: Options to extend lines to the right, left, or both.
FAQ
How do I use the Break vs. React alerts?
A "Break" alert triggers when the price closes outside the channel boundaries, signaling a potential trend change. A "React" alert triggers when the price touches a boundary and bounces back into the channel, signaling a continuation.
What is the difference between External and Internal channels?
External channels focus on the outermost extremes of price action (swing highs/lows), while Internal channels often align with the most frequent touchpoints or "bodies" of the trend to find the median value of the move.
