The Multi-Step Vegas SuperTrend - strategy indicator is an enhanced trend-following tool that combines the volatility-based Vegas Channel with the adaptive SuperTrend to generate systematic entry and exit signals. It features a unique dynamic volatility adjustment and a multi-step take profit mechanism to help traders scale out of positions effectively.

Usage

The strategy can be used to identify trend reversals and manage trades through tiered profit-taking.

  • Trend Identification: Trade signals are generated when the market price crosses the SuperTrend bounds, adjusted by the Vegas Channel's volatility. A shift from bearish to bullish triggers a buy signal, while a bullish to bearish shift triggers a sell signal.
  • Partial Exits: Users can enable up to four take profit steps. This allows the strategy to automatically close specific percentages of a position (e.g., 25% at the first target) as price reaches predefined percentage levels from the entry price.
  • Directional Control: The strategy can be set to "Long", "Short", or "Both" to align with higher-timeframe biases or specific market conditions.

Details

The strategy integrates two primary technical components:

  • Vegas Channel: Calculated using a Moving Average (SMA, JMA, or VIDYA) and standard deviation. The width of this channel serves as a proxy for market volatility.
  • Adaptive SuperTrend: Unlike a static SuperTrend, this version uses a "Volatility Adjustment Factor." It modifies the ATR multiplier based on the width of the Vegas Channel relative to the price. When volatility expands, the SuperTrend multiplier increases, preventing premature exits during high-volatility spikes.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Trade Direction: Filters signals to execute only Long, only Short, or both directions.
  • ATR Period: Sets the lookback period for Average True Range calculation used in the SuperTrend.
  • Vegas Window Length: Determines the period for the Vegas Channel's moving average and standard deviation.
  • SuperTrend Multiplier Base: The baseline multiplier applied to the ATR.
  • Volatility Adjustment Factor: Controls how much the Vegas Channel width influences the SuperTrend sensitivity.
  • Moving Average Type: Allows selection between SMA, Jurik Moving Average (JMA), and Volatility Index Dynamic Average (VIDYA) for the Vegas calculation.

Take Profit Settings

  • Use Take Profit: Enables or disables the multi-step exit logic.
  • Take Profit % Step 1-4: Defines the price percentage targets for each of the four exit steps.
  • Take Profit Amount % Step 1-4: Specifies what percentage of the total position should be closed at each respective step.
  • Number of Take Profit Steps: Limits the active exit tiers (1 to 4).

FAQ

How do I use the different Moving Average types?

The MA type changes the baseline for the Vegas Channel. SMA is standard, while JMA and VIDYA offer reduced lag and better responsiveness to price trends, which can refine the volatility adjustment.

Can I use this for automated trading?

Yes, the script includes strategy.entry and strategy.exit commands, making it compatible with the TradingView Strategy Tester and automated execution via alerts.
