The ZigZag Volume Profile indicator combines market structure analysis with volume data by plotting detailed volume profiles over individual price swings. It automatically identifies swing highs and lows, calculates the volume distribution within those specific segments, and highlights key reaction levels through extended Point of Control (POC) lines.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the volume distribution relative to the ZigZag market structure.

  • Market Structure Identification: Use the ZigZag lines to visually confirm the current trend and major swing points.
  • Volume Analysis: Observe the volume bins around each swing to identify where the most significant trading activity occurred. Larger bins indicate high-interest price zones.
  • Support and Resistance: Use the extended red POC lines as dynamic levels for potential entries or stop-loss placements.
  • Breakout Confirmation: When price breaches an extended POC line, it often signals that a previous high-volume area has been absorbed, potentially indicating a trend continuation or reversal.
  • Volatility Adaptation: Adjust the ATR-based channel width to ensure the volume profiles remain scaled correctly during periods of high or low market volatility.

Details

The script operates by tracking the highest highs and lowest lows over a user-defined length. Once a swing is confirmed, it segments the price action and scans the volume traded at various price levels between the swing start and end points.

  • Bin Construction: The tool calculates volume for multiple bins across the vertical range of the swing. The width of these bins is relative to the percentage of total volume traded within that swing.
  • Point of Control (POC): The price level with the highest volume in a swing is designated as the POC. This level is extended forward until price interacts with it, at which point the extension is terminated to maintain chart clarity.
  • Gradient Coloring: Bins are colored using a gradient (green to blue) based on volume magnitude, allowing for quick visual identification of high-activity nodes.

FAQ

How do I use the ZigZag Volume Profile? You can use it to find areas of high liquidity within specific price swings. The extended POC lines act as significant support and resistance levels that remain active until price "tests" or crosses them.

What does the red line signify? The red line represents the Point of Control (POC), which is the price level where the most volume was traded during that particular ZigZag swing.
