The Volume Reversals indicator is a trading tool designed to identify potential trend exhaustion and reversal points by analyzing sequential volume patterns paired with price action. It helps traders pinpoint entries where a climax or shift in volume suggests a change in market direction.

Usage

The script is used to identify specific price-volume anomalies that often precede a reversal. When the criteria are met, the indicator plots visual labels on the chart:

  • Buy Label (▲+): Appears below the low of a bar when volume patterns suggest selling exhaustion followed by a bullish turn.
  • Sell Label (▼+): Appears above the high of a bar when volume patterns suggest buying exhaustion followed by a bearish turn.

Traders can use these signals as standalone alerts or as confluence with existing trend-following strategies. The "Filter Signals" toggle allows users to switch between a strict sequential volume trend requirement and a more generalized volume-dip logic.

Details

The indicator evaluates the relationship between the current bar and the previous four bars. It focuses on two primary components:

  1. Volume Sequencing: It looks for specific patterns where volume increases over a period (indicating building pressure) and then dips/diverges, signaling a potential reversal.
  2. Price Confluence: The signals are only valid if the volume pattern is accompanied by the correct price action (e.g., a sequence of bearish bars followed by a bullish reversal bar for a buy signal).

The "Normal" logic requires a strict sequential increase in volume over the preceding three bars, whereas the "AnyVol" (unfiltered) logic prioritizes the sequence of candle colors and the immediate volume relationship of the most recent bars.

Settings

  • Filter Signals: A boolean toggle that switches the underlying calculation logic. When enabled, the indicator uses a stricter sequential volume comparison. When disabled, it uses a broader set of conditions focused on candle sequences and recent volume dips.
