The Zero Lag Trend Signals (MTF) V7 indicator is a comprehensive trend-following strategy that utilizes a Zero Lag Exponential Moving Average (ZLEMA) combined with volatility-based bands to identify high-probability entry and exit points while minimizing lag. It is designed for medium to long-term trading horizons, focusing on capturing sustained directional moves with integrated risk management.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying trend shifts and managing trades through the indicator's dynamic features.

  • Core Signals: A long signal is triggered when the price crosses above the ZLEMA plus the volatility band. Conversely, a short signal (if enabled) occurs when the price crosses below the ZLEMA minus the volatility band.
  • Trend Confirmation: Users can enable the ZLEMA Trend Confirmation filter, which requires the ZLEMA to show consecutive directional momentum (e.g., increasing for 4 bars) before an entry is validated. This is useful for filtering out noise in ranging markets.
  • Re-entry: For sustained trends, the "Re-Enter on Long Trend" setting allows the strategy to enter new positions if the price pulls back toward the ZLEMA and then resumes its upward momentum.
  • Performance Monitoring: The script offers a floating statistics table and trade log labels to visualize win rates, net P&L, and specific exit reasons directly on the chart.

Details

The indicator is built upon the Zero Lag Exponential Moving Average (ZLEMA) concept. The calculation involves:

  1. Determining a lag period: floor((length - 1) / 2).
  2. Applying a lag correction to the price: price + (price - price[lag]).
  3. Calculating the EMA of this lag-corrected price.

Volatility bands are derived using the highest Average True Range (ATR) over a specific lookback period, multiplied by a user-defined multiplier. This creates a dynamic boundary that adapts to market volatility, providing more robust signal generation than static moving average crossovers.

Settings

Main Calculations

  • Length: Controls the period for the ZLEMA calculation (Range: 70-7000).
  • Band Multiplier: Adjusts the width of the volatility bands relative to the ATR.

Entry Conditions

  • Use ZLEMA Trend Confirmation: Requires the ZLEMA to move in the trade direction for a set number of bars before entry.
  • Re-Enter on Long Trend: Allows the strategy to seek new entries during an existing bullish trend.

Short Trades

  • Allow Short Trades: Enables or disables bearish entry signals.

Dynamic TP/SL

  • Use ATR-Based Stop-Loss & Take-Profit: Switches from volatility-band stops to dynamic ATR-calculated levels.
  • ATR Length/Multiplier: Parameters for defining the distance of ATR stops and targets.
  • Use ATR Trailing Stop: Enables a ratcheting stop-loss that follows price movement.
  • Use Break-Even Stop-Loss: Automatically moves the stop-loss to the entry price once a specific Risk-Reward ratio is reached.
  • Use Trend-Based Take Profit: Closes positions when the price crosses a short-term EMA in the opposite direction.
