The Average True Range (VStop) Cloud Signals indicator provides a visual framework for trend identification and reversal detection by utilizing two Volatility Stop lines of varying sensitivities. By plotting both a short-term and long-term VStop, the tool creates a "cloud" that helps traders visualize trend strength and potential breakout points based on trailing volatility.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend direction and potential entry or exit points through the interaction of its two primary components:

  • Trend Identification: When the price is above the VStop lines, the trend is considered bullish. Conversely, when the price is below them, the trend is bearish.
  • Crossover Signals: The script generates "LONG" and "SHORT" labels based on the crossover of the small VStop (more sensitive) and the big VStop (less sensitive). A crossover upward suggests increasing bullish momentum, while a crossunder suggests increasing bearish momentum.
  • Visual Strength: Users can enable a "Rainbow RSI-Based Color Scheme" which adjusts the cloud's color based on the RSI value of the VStop lines, providing a secondary layer of trend strength analysis.

Details

The indicator is based on the Volatility Stop (VStop) concept, which uses the Average True Range (ATR) to calculate trailing stop-loss levels. This implementation features two distinct VStop calculations:

  1. Small VStop: Typically uses a smaller ATR multiplier (default 1.5x) to track price movements closely.
  2. Big VStop: Uses a larger multiplier (default 3.0x) to define the broader trend and filter out market noise.

The area between these two lines forms the "Cloud." The script also includes comprehensive alert conditions for crossovers and trend changes for both the small and big volatility components.

Settings

Display

  • ATR Cloud On?: Toggles the visibility of the VStop lines and the connecting cloud.
  • Labels?: Displays or hides the "LONG" and "SHORT" labels on the chart.
  • Rainbow RSI-Based Color Scheme?: When enabled, colors the indicator based on RSI-calculated trend strength.
  • Bullish/Bearish Color: Manual color selection for the lines and cloud when the rainbow scheme is disabled.
  • Cloud Fill Transparency: Adjusts the opacity of the shaded area between the two VStop lines.

Volatility Stop

  • Small VStop / Big VStop: Sets the ATR period (length) and the source price for each component.
  • ATR Multiple: Defines the multiplier applied to the ATR to determine the distance of the stop level from the price.
