Anchored VWAP Suite
May 15, 2026

The Anchored VWAP Suite indicator is a comprehensive toolkit designed to automatically plot volume-weighted average price (VWAP) lines from critical market reference points such as swing levels, session boundaries, and time-based opens. This tool eliminates the need for manual anchoring by dynamically tracking and color-coding meaningful volume-weighted levels to provide a clean read on market positioning.
Usage
The indicator automatically manages multiple "families" of anchored VWAPs, allowing traders to observe confluence between different timeframes and session extremes.
Session Anchors The tool tracks the high and low of Asia, London, and New York sessions. While a session is active, the VWAP live-updates as new highs or lows are formed. Once the session closes, the final anchor is locked, providing historical reference zones.
Swing Anchors Using a configurable lookback/lookforward window, the script identifies pivots. When a swing high or low is confirmed, a VWAP is automatically anchored to it. This is useful for identifying dynamic support and resistance from major turning points.
Time-Based Anchors (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) The indicator plots VWAPs starting from the Open, High, and Low of the current day, week, and month. These act as institutional benchmarks for the current trend.
Smart Labeling To keep the chart organized, the indicator includes a "Smart Label" system at the right edge. If multiple VWAPs converge at the same price level, labels are merged (e.g., "Daily Open & Swing Low") to prevent visual clutter.
Details
An anchored VWAP calculates the volume-weighted average price starting from a specific point in time (the "anchor"). This represents the average price paid by all participants since that specific event occurred.
The script offers three calculation methods:
- Standard: A cumulative calculation where every bar from the anchor has equal weight.
- EMA: Recent bars are weighted more heavily, making the VWAP more responsive to recent price action.
- RMA: Uses Wilder's smoothing to weight recent bars, providing a smoother but slightly lagging response compared to EMA.
Settings
General Configuration
- Method: Selects between Standard, EMA, or RMA calculation styles.
- Period: Determines the smoothing length for EMA and RMA modes.
- Max VWAP Length: Caps how many bars a VWAP can extend to optimize performance.
- VWAP Labels: Toggles the visibility of text tags on the right edge.
Session Anchors
- Session Toggles: Enable or disable Asia, London, and NY session tracking.
- High/Low Source: Choose the price source for session-based VWAPs.
- Session Boxes: Toggles the background highlights for session ranges.
Swing & Lookback Anchors
- Count: Determines how many historical swing VWAPs remain on the chart.
- Swing Bars Left/Right: Sets the required confirmation bars for pivot detection.
- Lookback Length: Sets the window for the "Highest High" and "Lowest Low" lookback anchors.
Time-Based Anchors (Daily, Weekly, Monthly)
- Show Open/High/Low: Individual toggles for each anchor type per timeframe.
- Extend All: If enabled, historical anchors will continue to the current bar instead of stopping when a new one forms.
FAQ
How do I use the different smoothing methods? Use "Standard" for the traditional anchored VWAP experience. Use "EMA" or "RMA" if you want the indicator to prioritize recent volume and price action over older data from the anchor point.
Why are session boxes not appearing on my chart? Session anchors and boxes are designed for intraday timeframes. They are automatically hidden on Daily, Weekly, and Monthly charts to maintain clarity.
