HEMA Trend Levels
Mar 25, 2025

The HEMA Trend Levels indicator uses two Hull-Exponential Moving Average (HEMA) curves to define dynamic trend zones and provide context-aware breakout and retest levels. It helps traders visualize momentum shifts and identify high-probability continuation setups through automated support and resistance zones.
Usage
The tool can be applied to any asset or timeframe to identify the prevailing market direction and potential entry points.
- Trend Zones: The shaded area between the fast and slow HEMA curves defines the trend. A bullish trend is identified when the fast HEMA is above the slow HEMA, while a bearish trend occurs when the fast HEMA is below.
- Trend Shift Boxes: Upon a crossover, the script automatically plots a "decision zone" (box). A green support box appears during a bullish crossover, and a red resistance box appears during a bearish crossunder.
- Test Confirmations: When price retraces to these boxes and successfully rejects the level (staying above support or below resistance), a triangle symbol (▲ or ▼) is plotted. This signals a validated retest and potential trend continuation.
- Bar Coloring: Bars are color-coded to provide instant feedback; green for bullish alignment, red for bearish alignment, and gray for neutral or indecisive price action.
Details
The indicator utilizes a Hull-EMA (HEMA) calculation, which is a hybrid moving average designed to reduce lag while maintaining significant smoothing. This is achieved by calculating the difference between a half-length EMA and a full-length EMA, then smoothing the result with a square-root-length EMA.
The "Trend Shift Boxes" are calculated based on the Average True Range (ATR) at the moment of the crossover, creating a volatility-adjusted zone. The script tracks these zones in real-time to detect when the price enters the box and closes outside of it in the direction of the trend, confirming a successful "test."
