The VWAP + EMA9 With Signals indicator provides a comprehensive scalping framework by combining Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) and an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to identify trend momentum and potential entry points.

Usage

This tool is primarily designed for short-term scalping, particularly on the 5-minute timeframe. It focuses on the relationship between price action, the EMA, and the VWAP to generate signals:

  • Buy Signals: Triggered when a candle closes above both the VWAP and the EMA9. This indicates bullish momentum and a potential quick scalp continuation.
  • Sell Signals: Triggered when a candle closes below both the VWAP and the EMA9. This indicates bearish momentum and a potential short scalp opportunity.
  • Intersection Signals: Small triangles appear when the EMA9 crosses above (green) or below (red) the VWAP, signaling a shift in the medium-term trend relative to volume-weighted averages.

For optimal results, users should look for signals that occur during high-volume periods and avoid taking entries during market accumulation or consolidation phases.

Details

The script calculates the VWAP based on a selectable anchor period (e.g., Session, Week, Month) and includes optional standard deviation or percentage-based bands. The core logic relies on the EMA9 acting as a fast-reacting trend filter. By requiring price to be on the same side of both the EMA and the VWAP, the script attempts to filter out low-conviction price movements.

Settings

VWAP Settings

  • Hide VWAP on 1D or Above: When enabled, the VWAP line will not be displayed on daily timeframes or higher.
  • Anchor Period: Sets the timeframe for resetting the VWAP calculation (e.g., Session, Week, Month, Year).
  • Source: The price source used for VWAP calculation (default is hlc3).
  • Offset: Shifts the VWAP plot horizontally by a specified number of bars.

Bands Settings

  • Bands Calculation Mode: Choose between "Standard Deviation" or "Percentage" for calculating the outer bands.
  • Bands Multiplier #2/#3: Adjusts the width of the optional second and third bands.

EMA Settings

  • EMA Length: Determines the lookback period for the Exponential Moving Average (default is 9).

FAQ

How do I use the VWAP + EMA9 With Signals?

The tool is best used on lower timeframes like the 5m chart. Look for "BUY" or "SELL" labels that appear when price breaks and closes above/below both indicator lines simultaneously.

What do the triangles represent?

The green and red triangles represent the crossover and crossunder of the EMA9 and the VWAP, respectively. These are early warnings of momentum shifts before price confirms the direction.
