The RSI buy/sell partitions indicator identifies potential market reversals by highlighting specific Relative Strength Index (RSI) overbought and oversold thresholds directly on the price chart. It provides visual cues through bar coloring and labels to help traders predict transaction timing based on momentum extremes.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify exhaustion points in price action where the RSI crosses back from extreme levels. When the RSI enters or exits specific "partitions," the script generates signals:

  • Buy Signals: Occur when the RSI is in an oversold state. The script colors the candles and plots a "Buy" label below the bar when the RSI value crosses back above the lower threshold (defaulting to 30). In extreme oversold conditions (e.g., RSI < 21), the signals and highlights may appear more prominent to indicate higher intensity.
  • Sell Signals: Occur when the RSI is in an overbought state. The script colors the candles and plots a "Sell" label above the bar when the RSI value crosses back below the upper threshold (defaulting to 70). In extreme overbought conditions (e.g., RSI > 80), the visuals adjust to indicate significant overextension.

Traders typically use these partitions to time entries after a momentum peak or trough has been established.

Details

The script calculates the standard RSI using a Relative Moving Average (RMA) of price changes. Unlike a standard RSI oscillator that sits in a separate pane, this tool overlays the logic onto the price chart. It tracks the relationship between the current RSI value and the previous bar's value to detect specific "cross back" events, ensuring that signals are generated when momentum starts to shift rather than just when an extreme is reached.

Settings

  • Source: Determines the price data used for the RSI calculation (default is Close).
  • Length: The lookback period for the RSI calculation (default is 14).
  • RSI Up Standar: The upper threshold used to define the overbought partition (default is 70).
  • RSI Down Standar: The lower threshold used to define the oversold partition (default is 30).

FAQ

How do I use the "Buy" and "Sell" labels?

The labels appear when the RSI exits the defined extreme zones, suggesting a potential mean reversion or trend shift. They should be used in conjunction with other technical analysis tools for confirmation.

Can I change the sensitivity of the signals?

Yes, by adjusting the "Length" input or the "RSI Up/Down Standar" values, you can make the indicator more or less sensitive to price fluctuations.
