RSI 100 150 200 MA Ribbon
Mar 22, 2015

The RSI 100 150 200 MA Ribbon indicator uses multiple long-length Relative Strength Index (RSI) calculations and moving average ribbons to help traders identify trend reversals and momentum shifts on lower timeframes. By combining RSI periods of 100, 150, and 200 with various moving average lengths, the tool provides a comprehensive view of trend strength and potential exhaustion points.
Usage
The indicator is primarily designed for charting on the 10-minute to 1-hour timeframes. Traders can use the visual "ribbon" formed by the different moving averages to determine the prevailing trend direction:
- Trend Identification: When the shorter MAs are above the longer MAs within the RSI space, it suggests a bullish trend. Conversely, shorter MAs below longer MAs suggest a bearish trend.
- Trend Reversals: Crosses between the fast MMA30 and fast MMA100 can serve as early signals for potential trend changes.
- Divergences: By observing the peaks and troughs of the RSI lines (100, 150, 200) relative to price action, users can identify traditional RSI divergences to spot potential exhaustion.
Details
The script constructs three distinct RSI components based on user-defined lengths (defaulting to 100, 150, and 200). For each RSI, a series of moving averages (5, 30, 50, 70, 90, and 100) are calculated to create a ribbon effect. The colors of these MAs dynamically change based on whether the average is rising or falling and its position relative to a reference "lead" moving average. This creates a multi-layered momentum oscillator that filters out short-term noise common in standard RSI indicators.
Settings
- RSI Fast Length: Sets the period for the fastest RSI calculation (default 100).
- RSI Norm Length: Sets the period for the normal/intermediate RSI calculation (default 150).
- RSI Slow Length: Sets the period for the slowest RSI calculation (default 200).
- Exponential MA (Fast/Norm/Slow): Toggles between Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and Simple Moving Averages (SMA) for the respective RSI ribbon groups.
