The Cumulative Volume Delta with VWAP-based Buy/Sell Alerts indicator is a comprehensive technical analysis tool that integrates volume flow dynamics with price-relative-to-volume benchmarks to identify potential market momentum shifts. By combining Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) with Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP), it provides traders with a dual-perspective view of buying/selling pressure and trend direction.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the signals and volume data provided by the script.

  • Buy Signals: Triggered when the price crosses above the VWAP line, suggesting a shift toward bullish momentum. These are marked with a green "BUY" label below the bar.
  • Sell Signals: Triggered when the price crosses below the VWAP line, suggesting a shift toward bearish momentum. These are marked with a red "SELL" label above the bar.
  • CVD Interpretation: The blue line represents the accumulation of volume delta. An increasing CVD suggests aggressive buying pressure, while a decreasing CVD suggests aggressive selling pressure.
  • CVD Moving Average: Use the smoothed CVD line to filter out noise and identify the broader trend of volume flow.

Details

This tool calculates Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) by accumulating volume based on candle close relative to the previous close. If the current price is higher than the previous, the volume is added; if lower, it is subtracted. This provides a running total of net volume flow.

Parallel to this, the script calculates the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP), which serves as the primary signal generator. Unlike standard moving averages, VWAP gives more weight to price levels with higher trading activity. The crossover logic between price and VWAP is a standard method for identifying entries in trending or high-volume environments.

Settings

  • Anchor period: Determines the timeframe over which the VWAP and associated calculations are anchored (e.g., Daily, Weekly).
  • Use custom timeframe: A toggle to enable or disable the use of a specific user-defined timeframe for calculations.
  • Timeframe: Defines the specific custom timeframe used when the "Use custom timeframe" option is active.

FAQ

How do I use the CVD line for confirmation?

While buy/sell signals are based on VWAP, you can look for the CVD line and its moving average to be trending in the same direction as the signal to confirm higher conviction in the move.

Can I set up notifications for these signals?

Yes, the indicator includes built-in alert conditions for both buy and sell signals. You can configure these via the TradingView Alert menu by selecting "Buy Signal Alert" or "Sell Signal Alert."
