The Bollinger Bands, multi tool indicator provides a comprehensive volatility analysis environment by allowing users to plot up to four independent sets of Bollinger Bands simultaneously. This tool is designed to help traders identify key pivots and trend exhaustion points by overlaying both local and macro-timeframe volatility envelopes on a single chart.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on how to leverage the multiple layers of volatility bands provided by the script. Traders can use the first two sets of bands for intraday or local timeframe analysis, while the third and fourth sets can be configured to display higher timeframe (HTF) Bollinger Bands.

For example:

  • Scalping/Day Trading: Enable BB1 and BB2 on the current chart timeframe to monitor immediate price fluctuations.
  • Trend Context: Enable BB3 and BB4 set to "240" (4-hour) or "1440" (Daily) to see where the current price sits relative to higher timeframe volatility extremes.
  • Mean Reversion: Use the basis line (central moving average) as a dynamic target or support/resistance level.

Details

This script enhances the standard Bollinger Band calculation by offering ten different smoothing methods for the basis line. Beyond the traditional Simple Moving Average (SMA), users can select more responsive options like the Hull Moving Average (HullMA) or the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP). For the macro bands, the script utilizes request.security to fetch data from higher timeframes, ensuring that the volatility envelopes remain consistent regardless of the chart's current resolution.

Settings

  • Smoothing: Selects the moving average type (SMA, EMA, WMA, VWMA, SMMA, DEMA, TEMA, HullMA, LSMA, or VWAP).

  • Length: The lookback period for the basis calculation and standard deviation.
  • Multiplier: The standard deviation factor that determines the width of the bands.
