The Moving Average 3x indicator plots three independent simple moving averages on a single chart to help traders identify multi-timeframe trends and potential crossover signals.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market momentum and trend direction. By plotting three distinct moving averages, users can observe the interaction between short-term, medium-term, and long-term price action.

  • Trend Identification: When the shorter-term MA is above the medium and long-term MAs, it indicates a bullish trend. Conversely, when the shorter-term MA is below the others, it suggests a bearish trend.
  • Crossover Signals: The indicator monitors for crossovers between the first and second MA, as well as the second and third MA. These points often serve as signals for potential trend reversals or momentum shifts.
  • Support and Resistance: Moving averages frequently act as dynamic support or resistance levels during trending markets.

Details

The script calculates three Simple Moving Averages (SMA) based on the closing price of the bars. The calculation is straightforward: it sums the closing prices over a specified number of periods and divides by that number.

The indicator includes built-in alert conditions for crossovers. These alerts trigger at the close of a bar when a faster moving average crosses above or below a slower moving average, specifically tracking the relationship between MA 1 & MA 2, and MA 2 & MA 3. This implementation is refactored for visual clarity and optimized for real-time notifications.

Settings

  • Length (MA 1): Determines the lookback period for the first (typically shortest) simple moving average.
  • Length MA 2: Determines the lookback period for the second (typically medium-term) simple moving average.
  • Length MA 3: Determines the lookback period for the third (typically long-term) simple moving average.

FAQ

How do I use the crossover alerts? Alerts are pre-configured to trigger when the faster moving averages cross the slower ones. You can enable these notifications through your platform's alert menu to be notified when a trend shift is detected on the bar close.

Can I change the moving average type? This specific version utilizes Simple Moving Averages (SMA). For different calculation methods like EMA or WMA, the underlying source code would require adjustment to the preferred calculation function.
