The Visual RSI indicator provides a composite representation of nine RSI-derived components to offer a broader context of momentum than a single line. It blends current and higher timeframe RSI values, their delta, and independent Bollinger Bands for the bullish and bearish regions to drown out market noise and highlight underlying sentiment shifts.

Usage

Visual RSI is designed to identify momentum strength and potential exhaustion points. The default settings use color intensities to represent component importance:

  • Bullish Context: When the indicator is in the upper zone (>50), bright green indicates strong bullishness. Red in this zone suggests weakening bullish strength or a potential pause, rather than an immediate bearish reversal.
  • Bearish Context: In the lower zone (<50), bright red indicates strong bearishness. Green in this zone suggests weakening bearish momentum.
  • Reversal Setups: Traders can look for "delta RSI" pivots. For example, a low pivot of the delta line within a fully green background (bullish context) may signal a trend continuation entry.

Details

The script uses a dual Bollinger Band approach, calculating independent bands for the upper (>50) and lower (<50) regions of the RSI scale. Unlike traditional Bollinger Bands that apply standard deviation to a mean, these bands focus on volatility within their respective halves of the oscillator. This ensures the upper band never drops below the centerline and the lower band never rises above it, providing clearer tracking of volatility relative to the 50-level sentiment balance. The higher timeframe (HTF) components are calculated using non-repainting security calls to ensure historical reliability.

Settings

  • Display Settings: Options to hide or show RSI, HTF RSI, Delta RSI, and their respective Bollinger Bands as lines or various fill types.
  • Background/Status: Nine different coloring methods to represent market states, including six-state logic for bullish/bearish/neutral sentiment.
  • Higher Timeframe (HTF) RSI: Choose the HTF via discrete steps, a multiplier of the current chart, or a fixed timeframe.
  • Markers: Configure up to three different markers for state transitions, crosses, or pivots, with approximately 70 permutations each.
  • Filters: Five additive filters including Bar Direction, Volume over MA, and Chandelier volatility filters.
  • Parameters: Adjust RSI lengths (default 20/40), Bollinger Band length/multiplier, and overbought/oversold levels.

FAQ

How do I interpret the red color in the upper green zone? Red in the bullish zone (>50) indicates that bullish strength is weakening or the price is taking a breather; it does not necessarily signify a trend reversal to bearish.

What is the "Delta RSI" component? The Delta RSI represents the difference between the current timeframe RSI and the higher timeframe RSI, providing a faster visual cue for momentum shifts relative to the larger trend.
