The Trend Signals with TP & SL indicator provides automated trend continuation signals accompanied by dynamic risk management levels to assist traders in identifying entries and managing exits through integrated technical filters.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market opportunities and manage risk. The indicator generates "Buy" and "Sell" labels on the chart when specific trend and momentum conditions are met.

Traders can use the following features to interpret market action:

  • Trend Continuation: Buy signals appear when price momentum aligns with the calculated trend direction. Sell signals appear when bearish momentum is confirmed.
  • Risk Management: Upon signal generation, the script plots an entry line, a stop-loss (SL) level, and three take-profit (TP) levels (1R, 2R, and 3R). These levels remain visible as long as the position is active.
  • Momentum Cloud: The background cloud, derived from Moving Average and MACD calculations, serves as a visual filter for the current market sentiment. Green clouds typically represent bullish momentum, while red clouds represent bearish momentum.
  • Alerts: Integrated alerts notify users of trend changes, signal generation, or when price reaches the defined TP or SL levels.

Details

The indicator utilizes several technical layers to determine entries and exits:

  • Trend Calculation: The core trend logic uses the Average True Range (ATR) multiplied by a sensitivity factor to create dynamic upper and lower bounds. A trend shift occurs when the price closes outside these bounds.
  • Momentum Filtering: Signals are refined using the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the Chande Momentum Oscillator (CMO). Buy signals require oversold RSI conditions combined with positive CMO movement near pivot points.
  • Cloud Logic: The visual cloud is constructed using Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) of high and low prices. The coloring is further dictated by the MACD line and signal line relationship to determine the strength of the move.
  • Risk-Reward Ratios: The stop-loss is calculated as a fixed percentage of the entry price. The take-profit levels are then projected as multiples (1x, 2x, 3x) of the distance between the entry and the stop-loss.

Settings

Trend Continuation Signals with TP & SL

  • Source: Determines the price data used for the primary trend calculations (Default is HL2).
  • Sensitivity: Adjusts the multiplier for the ATR bands. Lower values make the indicator more sensitive to price changes, while higher values require larger moves to trigger signals.
  • ATR Length: Sets the lookback period for the Average True Range calculation.
  • ATR Calculation Methods: Allows selection between "Method 1" (Standard ATR) and "Method 2" (SMA of True Range).
  • Cloud Moving Average Length: Defines the period for the EMA-based cloud visualization.
  • Stop Loss Percent: Sets the percentage distance from the entry price for the stop-loss level. Setting this to 0 disables the risk management plotting.
  • Show Buy/Sell Signals: Toggles the visibility of the Buy and Sell labels on the chart.
  • Show Cloud MA: Toggles the visibility of the EMA-based momentum cloud.

FAQ

How are the Take-Profit levels determined? The take-profit levels are calculated based on the user-defined Stop-Loss percentage. TP1 represents a 1:1 reward-to-risk ratio, TP2 represents 2:1, and TP3 represents 3:1.

What indicators are used to filter the signals? The script uses a combination of ATR for trend detection, RSI and Chande Momentum Oscillator (CMO) for momentum filtering, and Pivot Points for structural confirmation.
