The Auto Parallel Channels (HTF) indicator automatically detects and projects parallel channels from three configurable higher timeframes to identify validated structural zones and trend boundaries.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to visualize market structure across multiple horizons. The tool identifies channels by analyzing the two most recent pivot highs and lows on the selected higher timeframes (HTF).

  • Multi-Timeframe Analysis: Users can enable up to three distinct timeframes (e.g., 4H, Daily, Weekly). Each timeframe is assigned a unique color and line thickness to maintain a clear visual hierarchy, where thicker lines represent higher-level structural significance.
  • Validation Logic: Unlike standard tools that draw through every swing, this indicator only renders a channel if the upper and lower trendlines are nearly parallel. If price action forms a wedge or triangle, the script remains silent.
  • Breakout Detection: An active channel is considered broken when the price closes outside its boundaries on its respective timeframe. Broken channels are visually dimmed and stop extending to the right.
  • Confluence: When channels from different timeframes overlap, it indicates high-conviction structural confluence.
  • Projected Labels: The script provides right-edge labels displaying the projected price levels for the upper, midline, and lower boundaries one channel-length into the future.

Details

The script executes its detection logic within a request.security function for each timeframe. It calculates the slopes of the upper boundary (connecting two pivot highs) and the lower boundary (connecting two pivot lows).

To ensure geometric validity, the script compares the channel width at the second pivot high against the projected width one channel-length forward. The channel is accepted only if the variance falls within the user-defined Slope Tolerance. This strict parallelism check ensures that only high-quality, rectangular structures are displayed. Note that because pivots require a specific "lookback" (Pivot Length) to confirm, higher-timeframe channels will appear after the structural high or low has been established to ensure non-repainting geometry.

Detection

  • Pivot length: The number of bars required on each side to confirm a pivot high or low. Higher values filter out minor noise to find major structural swings.
  • Slope tolerance: Determines how much the channel width can deviate (0.0 to 1.0) before being rejected. A value of 0.35 allows for slight "wedging," while 0.0 requires perfect parallelism.

Timeframes

  • TF 1/2/3: Toggles for enabling or disabling specific timeframes and selecting the desired periodicity (e.g., 240, D, W).

Colors

  • TF 1/2/3 Color: Customizes the color scheme for each timeframe to help distinguish between different structural layers.

Display

  • Midline: Toggles the visibility of the dashed center line within the channels.
  • Right-edge labels: Toggles the price labels for the projected upper, mid, and lower boundaries.

FAQ

How do I adjust the sensitivity of the channel detection? You can adjust the Pivot length to change how significant a price swing must be to be considered, or modify the Slope tolerance to allow for less "perfect" channels to be drawn.

Why are no channels appearing on my chart? Channels only appear when at least two pivot highs and two pivot lows have formed on the HTF and the resulting geometry passes the slope tolerance check. Try lowering the Pivot Length or increasing the Slope Tolerance.
