The Strong Support and Resistance with EMAs indicator provides a comprehensive framework for trend following and identifying key market levels by combining two exponential moving averages with volume-weighted support and resistance detection.

Usage

The tool is designed to identify trend continuation and reversal points by observing the interaction between price action, moving averages, and historical levels.

  • Trend Identification: The EMA 20 serves as a medium-term trend baseline, while the EMA 9 reacts quickly to price shifts. A crossover of the EMA 9 above the EMA 20 indicates bullish momentum, while a cross below suggests bearish momentum.
  • Support & Resistance Interaction: The script automatically plots horizontal levels based on high-volume activity. These act as "Strong" zones where price is likely to react.
  • Buy Signals: Traders often look for the EMA 9 crossing above the EMA 20, specifically when the price is near a identified support level or successfully breaking through a resistance level.
  • Sell Signals: These can be identified when the EMA 9 crosses below the EMA 20, particularly if the price is struggling at a resistance level or breaking down through support.

Details

The script utilizes a custom detection function that scans historical bars for "high-volume" price points. Unlike traditional pivot-based support and resistance, this approach identifies levels where significant market participation occurred (defined by the Volume Threshold). The levels are then stored and extended to the right of the chart to provide visual targets for future price action.

The moving averages provide a secondary layer of confirmation, helping traders distinguish between a ranging market (where EMAs are flat and intertwined) and a trending market (where EMAs are angled and separated).

Settings

  • Volume Threshold: Defines the minimum volume required on a bar to consider its high/low as a potential strong support or resistance level.
  • Lookback Period: Sets the number of historical bars the script analyzes to find and plot these volume-based levels.

FAQ

How do I use the volume threshold?

You should adjust the Volume Threshold based on the asset and timeframe you are trading. Higher values will result in fewer, but more significant, support and resistance lines.

What do the different colors mean?

By default, the EMA 20 is blue, the EMA 9 matches the chart's foreground color, support lines are green, and resistance lines are red.

How can I access this script?
