RSI Buy and Sell
Sep 27, 2019

The RSI Buy and Sell indicator is a momentum-based trend-following tool designed to enter long positions when the Relative Strength Index (RSI) exceeds overbought levels and exit once it drops below oversold levels.
Usage
The RSI Buy and Sell script is primarily used to capture strong bullish momentum. Unlike traditional mean-reversion strategies that sell when the RSI is overbought, this tool views a high RSI reading as a sign of strong trend continuation.
- Long Entry: A buy signal is triggered when the RSI (14) crosses above the defined Overbought Level (default is 70).
- Exit: The position is closed when the RSI crosses below the defined Oversold Level (default is 30).
This approach allows traders to stay in a trend during periods of extreme strength, only exiting once the momentum significantly cools down.
Details
The script utilizes the standard Relative Strength Index (RSI) calculation with a default period of 14. The core logic hinges on the idea that sustained momentum often carries prices much higher before a true reversal occurs. By entering at 70, the strategy filters for high-velocity moves. The use of a wide gap between entry (70) and exit (30) aims to reduce "churn" or premature exits during minor pullbacks within a strong uptrend.
Settings
- Overbought Level: Sets the RSI threshold required to trigger a buy signal. Higher values require more momentum for an entry.
- Oversold Level: Sets the RSI threshold required to close an active position. Lower values allow for deeper retracements before exiting.
