The Fractal Breakout V2 indicator helps traders identify significant price structures and potential trend reversals by mapping fractal-based pivot points and projecting trendline extensions. This tool is designed to automate the visualization of support and resistance levels formed by price extremes, allowing for easier identification of pattern breakouts.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying price channels and breakouts using the following components:

  • Bouncing Line: A thick blue line connects consecutive fractal highs and lows, providing a visual representation of the current trend direction and market rhythm.
  • Fractal Points: Green and red lines mark the exact points where a pivot high or low has been confirmed based on the lookback period.
  • Pattern Extensions: Dotted lines project the slope of recent fractal points into the future. When price crosses these extensions, it may signal a bullish or bearish breakout.
  • Shading: Dynamic shading highlights areas between price action and the projected pattern extensions, making it easier to visualize whether the price is trading above resistance or below support.

Traders can use the "Bounce" alert to be notified when a new extreme is detected, or the breakout alerts to catch momentum shifts when price pierces the projected trendlines.

Details

The script operates by identifying "Fractals" (pivots) where a specific bar is the highest or lowest within a defined lookback window (extremePastLen).

The core logic calculates the slope between current and previous fractal points. These slopes are then used to project the "Pattern Extensions." The script includes a tolerance setting (patternSlopeTol) to determine when a new fractal point deviates enough from the existing projection to warrant a change in the line's slope. This helps filter out minor price fluctuations while capturing significant shifts in market structure.

Settings

  • # Values to Consider for Pivot Determination: Sets the window size for identifying high and low pivots. Higher values result in more significant, longer-term fractals.
  • Use shading?: Toggles the background coloring between price action and pattern extensions.
  • Use Pattern Helpers (new dotted lines)?: Enables or disables the primary projected trendlines based on recent fractal slopes.
  • Use Slope Extensions (old dotted lines)?: Enables an alternative method of projecting slopes for legacy analysis.
  • Slope Tolerance for Line Continuation: Adjusts how sensitive the extensions are to new fractal points. A higher tolerance allows the line to maintain its slope even if new fractals deviate slightly.

FAQ

How can I access the Fractal Breakout V2?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

What timeframe works best for this indicator?
The indicator is resolution-independent and adapts to any timeframe. Higher timeframes like 1H or 4H typically provide more reliable fractal pivots for trend analysis.

What do the green and red circles represent?
These represent the projected extensions of previous fractal highs (green) and lows (red). When the price breaks through these circles, it often indicates a volatility expansion or trend change.
