MACD 4C + signal line
Aug 18, 2017

The MACD 4C + signal line indicator provides a visually enhanced representation of the classic MACD oscillator by utilizing a four-color histogram to highlight momentum shifts and trend strength relative to a signal line.
Usage
The Usage of the MACD 4C + signal line involves monitoring the color changes in the histogram columns and their relationship with the signal line.
- Strong Bullish (Bright Green): Occurs when the MACD is above the zero line and increasing, indicating strengthening upward momentum.
- Weak Bullish (Light Green): Occurs when the MACD is above the zero line but decreasing, suggesting a potential slowdown in the uptrend.
- Strong Bearish (Bright Red): Occurs when the MACD is below the zero line and decreasing, indicating strengthening downward momentum.
- Weak Bearish (Light Red): Occurs when the MACD is below the zero line but increasing, suggesting a potential exhaustion in the downtrend.
Users often look for crossovers between the MACD histogram and the signal line to identify potential entry or exit points. An alert is triggered when the MACD crosses above or below the signal line.
Details
This tool is based on the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) concept. It calculates the difference between a Fast Moving Average and a Slow Moving Average. Unlike standard MACD histograms that typically measure the distance between the MACD line and the signal line, this specific implementation colors the MACD line itself (rendered as columns) based on its slope and position relative to the zero level. A Simple Moving Average (SMA) of the MACD values is then plotted as the signal line to provide a secondary trend confirmation.
Settings
- Fast moving average: Determines the period for the shorter-term exponential moving average (default is 12).
- Slow moving average: Determines the period for the longer-term exponential moving average (default is 26).
- Signal Length: The period used to calculate the Simple Moving Average of the MACD values, acting as the signal line.
FAQ
How do I interpret the four colors?
The colors represent momentum: bright colors indicate momentum is moving further away from the zero line (strengthening), while faded colors indicate momentum is returning toward the zero line (weakening).
What triggers the alerts in this script?
Alerts are triggered on the close of a bar whenever the MACD value crosses over or under the signal line.
