The MACD Support and Resistance indicator provides a dynamic mapping of market structure by identifying key price levels based on MACD crossover momentum. By linking momentum shifts directly to recent price extremes, this tool helps traders visualize where market sentiment has historically changed and remains relevant for current price action.

Usage

The indicator generates support and resistance zones based on MACD line and signal line interactions. This logic helps identify structural levels where price previously reversed or paused.

  • Support Generation: When the MACD line crosses above the signal line, the script identifies the lowest low of the last 5 bars and plots a support level.
  • Resistance Generation: When the MACD line crosses below the signal line, the script identifies the highest high of the last 5 bars and plots a resistance level.
  • Dynamic Level Management: The indicator maintains up to 20 active levels. To maintain chart clarity, levels are automatically removed if the price closes below a support line or above a resistance line, ensuring only respected levels are displayed.
  • MACD Visualization: A lower panel displays the MACD and signal lines with dynamic color-coding and a filled area to emphasize momentum strength. Diamond markers signal crossovers to provide timing for level updates.
  • Local Reference Lines: The tool plots local highs and lows based on the 100-bar extreme MACD values, helping traders identify overextended or compressed momentum conditions.

Details

The script uses a reactive approach to market structure. Instead of static pivot points, it waits for a momentum trigger (the MACD crossover) to define a zone of interest. This ensures that every support or resistance level plotted has a corresponding shift in momentum behind it. The cleanup logic is essential for active trading, as it prevents "analysis paralysis" by removing invalidated levels immediately after they are breached by price.

FAQ

How do I use the support and resistance levels for trading?

These levels can be used as targets for take-profits, areas for stop-loss placement, or as confirmation zones for breakout and reversal strategies.

How are the levels removed from the chart?

Levels are removed either when the price closes through them (invalidation) or when the maximum limit of 20 active levels is reached, at which point the oldest levels are shifted out.
