The Fixed Range Footprint indicator provides a detailed order flow analysis over a user-defined time period, visualizing buy and sell pressure directly on the chart. By isolating a specific range, traders can identify imbalances, value areas, and points of control that occurred during significant market events.

Usage

The tool is primarily used to identify areas of high liquidity and market conviction. By setting a "Start" and "End" range via the interactive coordinate selection, the script aggregates lower timeframe data to construct a footprint of the selected period.

  • Fixed vs. Real-time: While the default mode focuses on a static range, enabling the Extend Right option allows the footprint to update dynamically from your starting point to the current live bar.
  • Imbalance Detection: Use the Imbalance Percent setting to highlight price levels where buying volume significantly outweighs selling volume (or vice versa) diagonally.
  • Stacked Levels: This feature identifies multiple consecutive imbalances, which often act as strong support or resistance zones. The script can extend lines from these zones to highlight future points of interest.
  • Value Area Analysis: The indicator calculates the Value Area (VAH, VAL) and Point of Control (POC) for the selected range, helping you determine where 70% (or a custom %) of the volume was transacted.

Details

The indicator utilizes request.security_lower_tf to fetch granular data for accurate volume distribution. It automatically selects the most appropriate lower timeframe based on the chart interval to ensure data integrity.

The "Ticks Per Row" logic determines the vertical resolution of the footprint. In Auto mode, the script calculates an optimal row size based on the volatility of the first bar in the range to ensure the footprint remains readable without overcrowding the interface.

Settings

Coordinates

  • Start range: Sets the beginning timestamp for the footprint calculation.
  • End range: Sets the concluding timestamp for the footprint calculation.
  • Extend Right: When active, the end coordinate is ignored, and the footprint extends to the most recent bar.

Row Size

  • Ticks Per Row: Manual price step size (multiplied by the symbol's minimum tick).
  • Auto: Automatically determines the price step for optimal visual density.
  • Max row: Limits the number of rows allowed within a single bar when using Auto mode.

Imbalance

  • Imbalance Percent: The threshold used to compare diagonal bid/ask volume to trigger an imbalance highlight.
  • Stacked levels: The number of consecutive imbalances required to draw an extended support/resistance line.

Value Area

  • Value Area: The percentage of total volume to include in the Value Area calculation.
  • POC / VAH / VAL: Toggles for the Point of Control, Value Area High, and Value Area Low levels.
  • Show Volume Profile: Enables a horizontal volume histogram at each price level within the footprint.

FAQ

How do I select the range on my chart?

When you add the script or change settings, use the interactive time selectors to click on the specific starting and ending bars you wish to analyze.

What is the difference between a standard footprint and this fixed range version?

Standard footprints are typically bar-by-bar; this tool allows you to aggregate volume data over an entire session, trend, or news event into a single cohesive profile.
