Squeeze_Timing-V3
Jan 16, 2015

The UCS_Squeeze_Timing-V3 indicator provides a comprehensive view of market volatility and momentum by combining Bollinger Bands, Keltner Channels, and a smoothed momentum histogram. It aims to identify periods of price consolidation (squeezes) and the potential directional breakout that follows, allowing traders to time entries during volatility expansions.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on the relationship between the central dots and the histogram bars to determine market phase and direction:
- Squeeze Identification: The central circles indicate the state of volatility. A red circle signifies a "Squeeze On" state, where Bollinger Bands are trading inside the Keltner Channels, indicating low volatility and potential consolidation. A green circle indicates "Squeeze Off," meaning volatility is expanding. Blue circles represent a neutral state where criteria for a squeeze are not fully met.
- Momentum Direction: The histogram bars indicate the direction and strength of the trend. Bars above zero suggest bullish momentum, while bars below zero suggest bearish momentum.
- Momentum Strength: Bright green or bright red bars indicate increasing momentum in their respective directions. Dimmer colors indicate that momentum is beginning to fade or mean-revert.
- Heikin Ashi Integration: By enabling the Heikin Ashi option, the indicator can provide a smoother output, which is particularly useful for assets that frequently experience price gaps, such as ETFs or forex pairs.
Details
The script functions by comparing the width of Bollinger Bands to the width of Keltner Channels. When Bollinger Bands contract within the Keltner Channels, it is mathematically defined as a "Squeeze."
The momentum calculation offers flexibility between the Bollinger Band Ratio (BBR) and Rate of Change (ROC). The BBR method calculates the position of the price relative to the bands, while the ROC method focuses on the percentage change over a fixed period. A Simple Moving Average (SMA) is then applied to this momentum value to filter out noise, providing a clearer trend visualization.
Settings
- Squeeze Length: Determines the lookback period for both Bollinger Bands and Keltner Channels.
- BB MultFactor: Sets the standard deviation multiplier for the Bollinger Bands.
- KC MultFactor: Sets the multiplier for the Keltner Channel range.
- Momentum Smoothing: Defines the period for the SMA applied to the momentum histogram.
- Use Bollinger Band Ratio: Toggles between using BBR (true) or ROC (false) for the momentum calculation.
- Use Heikin Ashi Candle: When enabled, uses the Heikin Ashi OHLC4 average instead of the standard closing price for calculations.
- Use TrueRange (KC): Determines whether the Keltner Channels use True Range or a simple High-Low range.
FAQ
How do I interpret a transition from a red dot to a green dot? A transition from a red dot to a green dot indicates a "Squeeze Release," suggesting that the period of consolidation is ending and a volatility expansion (and potential trend) is beginning.
Can I use this for scalping or long-term trading? Yes, the indicator is versatile and can be applied to any timeframe. Higher timeframes generally provide more reliable squeeze signals, while lower timeframes can be used for timing entries.
How do I access UCS_Squeeze_Timing-V3? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
