The L3 Jurik MACD indicator combines the responsiveness of the Jurik Moving Average with advanced candlestick modeling to provide a highly accurate trend-following and reversal detection tool.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market momentum and potential turning points:

  • MACD Components: Use the traditional MACD line and signal line crossovers to identify primary trend shifts. The histogram provides additional confirmation of momentum strength.
  • Simulated Candlesticks: The indicator plots unique candlesticks within the oscillator pane based on the difference between short-term (3-period) and medium-term (8-period) EMAs. These help traders visualize price action relative to MACD momentum without switching focus to the main chart.
  • Buy/Sell Signals: "B" (Buy) and "S" (Sell) labels appear when specific EMA relationships align with MACD momentum or when the simulated candles cross the zero line.
  • Reversal Alerts: "Near Top" (fuchsia/red) and "Near Bottom" (green/yellow) labels highlight potential exhaustion zones where the market may be overextended, signaling an imminent reversal.

Details

The L3 Jurik MACD is constructed using a multi-layered approach to smoothing and signal generation. Unlike standard MACD tools that rely on simple EMAs, this tool utilizes the Jurik Moving Average (JMA) for the fast and slow components. JMA is renowned for its low-lag characteristics and reduced "noise" compared to traditional moving averages.

The signal line is further refined using an Arnaud Legoux Moving Average (ALMA), which offers superior smoothness and responsiveness. Additionally, the tool incorporates a "KDJ-style" logic by using 3 and 8-period EMA differentials to create the overlaid candlestick chart. This allows for a proportional comparison between price-based momentum and trend-based momentum.

Settings

  • Fast Period (Hardcoded/Internal): Determines the lookback for the fast Jurik Moving Average (standardly set to 12).
  • Slow Period (Hardcoded/Internal): Determines the lookback for the slow Jurik Moving Average (standardly set to 26).
  • Signal Period (Hardcoded/Internal): Sets the ALMA smoothing period for the signal line (standardly set to 9).
  • Visual Elements: Users can observe the MACD Line, Signal Line, and dual-colored Histogram which changes transparency based on whether momentum is increasing or decreasing.

FAQ

How do I interpret the "Near Top" and "Near Bottom" signals?

These signals act as divergence and exhaustion warnings. A "Near Top" suggests that while price may be high, momentum is waning, indicating a potential bearish reversal. "Near Bottom" suggests the opposite for bullish setups.

What do the candles in the oscillator pane represent?

These candles are a visual representation of the difference between 3-period and 8-period EMAs. They allow you to see price action dynamics directly on top of the MACD values for better correlation.
