Price Action Fractal Forecasts
Mar 19, 2024

The Price Action Fractal Forecasts indicator projects potential future price movements by identifying and analyzing historical patterns that resemble current market behavior. Using correlation metrics, it searches for repeating sequences to provide visual forecasts and actionable insights into trend direction.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to anticipate market shifts. Traders can monitor the forecast line and the deviation cone to gauge the likelihood of a specific price path.
- Pattern Recognition: Use the "Most Similar Data" window to identify where the current price action has occurred in the past.
- Trend Forecasting: The forecast line indicates the projected direction (Bullish or Bearish) based on the selected mode.
- Volatility Assessment: The forecast deviation cone provides a visual range of potential price variance, helping traders manage risk based on the width of the cone.
- Mode Switching: Use "Anticipatory" mode to see what happened after the historical match, or "Repetitive" mode to see the match itself projected forward.
Details
This tool leverages fractal geometry concepts, assuming that market patterns are self-similar across different time scales. It establishes a "Training Data" window to scan historical prices and a "Reference Length" to define the current pattern.
The script calculates the Pearson correlation coefficient between the reference data and all segments within the training window. Once the most similar segment is found, it uses the subsequent or concurrent price action to build the forecast. The forecast deviation cone is constructed using the standard deviation of the forecasted prices relative to their mean, scaled by a user-defined multiplier.
Settings
Core Settings
- Data Series: The price source used for correlation and forecasting (e.g., Close).
- Training Data: The total historical lookback period used for searching similar patterns.
- Reference Length: The number of recent bars used as the template for finding matches.
- Forecast Length: The number of bars to project into the future.
- Deviation Cone Multiplier: Controls the width of the volatility cone; higher values show a wider range of potential outcomes.
- Forecast Type:
- Anticipatory: Uses the data immediately following the historical match.
- Repetitive: Uses the historical match itself as the forecast.
- Forecast Direction Type: Determines if direction is based on the final end-point or the mean of all forecasted prices.
Visuals
- Enable Forecast Deviation Cone: Toggles the visibility of the volatility projection area.
- Up/Down Color: Sets the colors for bullish and bearish forecast projections.
- Data Area Colors: Customizes colors for Reference, Similar, and Forecasted data boxes.
FAQ
How do I interpret the Forecast Certainty in the table? The certainty percentage is derived from the strength of the historical correlation minus the statistical uncertainty of the forecasted path. Higher percentages suggest a more reliable historical match.
Can I use this on any timeframe? Yes, the fractal nature of the algorithm allows it to search for patterns on any timeframe, though larger "Training Data" windows may be required for lower timeframes.
