Pivot Based (Retrospective)

The Pivot Reversal Strategy indicator is a technical tool designed to identify potential trend reversals by detecting significant pivot high and low points within price action. It aims to provide traders with automated entry signals based on the breach of these established pivot levels, facilitating a systematic approach to trend-following or reversal trading.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on how the script identifies market turning points. A long entry is initiated when the market price breaks above a recent pivot high, while a short entry is triggered when the price drops below a recent pivot low.

For example, if the market establishes a pivot high and then subsequently rallies above that high's price level (plus a minimum tick), the strategy enters a long position. Conversely, if a pivot low is formed and price later breaks below that level, a short position is triggered. These signals are best utilized in trending environments where price clearing a pivot often signifies momentum.

Details

The script utilizes the ta.pivothigh and ta.pivotlow functions to detect structural points in the market. A pivot high is defined as a high that is higher than 'n' bars to its left and 'm' bars to its right.

Once a pivot is detected, the script stores that price level. The strategy then sets a "stop" order at that level. The signal remains active until the price successfully breaches the pivot level or a new pivot in the same direction is formed, which then updates the target entry price.

Settings

  • Left Bars: The number of bars to the left of a candle required to confirm a pivot point. Higher values result in more significant, but fewer, pivot points.
  • Right Bars: The number of bars to the right of a candle required to confirm a pivot point. Increasing this value adds lag to the signal but increases the reliability of the identified pivot.
