VWAP Trend with Standard Deviation & Midlines
Dec 11, 2024

The VWAP Trend with Standard Deviation & Midlines indicator provides a comprehensive volume-weighted price analysis tool designed to identify trend direction, volatility ranges, and potential mean reversion levels.
Usage
The tool is primarily used for identifying intraday support and resistance levels based on volume-weighted averages. Traders can use the color-changing VWAP line to confirm trend direction (e.g., green for rising, red for falling). The standard deviation bands act as overbought or oversold zones, while the midlines (at 0.5σ intervals) provide secondary levels for precise entries or profit-taking.
Key usage scenarios include:
- Mean Reversion: Fading price moves that reach the outer ±2 or ±3 standard deviation bands.
- Trend Following: Using the VWAP line as a trailing support/resistance level.
- Volatility Analysis: Observing the expansion and contraction of bands to gauge market activity.
Details
The indicator calculates a primary VWAP based on the selected source (default HLC3). It supports two calculation modes for the bands: Standard Deviation, which adapts to price volatility, and Percentage, which uses fixed percentage offsets. The tool features session-based resets, allowing it to restart calculations at the New York session open or at the daily open, ensuring the data remains relevant to the current trading day.

FAQ
How do I use the midlines?
The midlines are calculated at 0.5 intervals between the main standard deviation bands. They serve as "halfway" points that can act as minor support/resistance or as transition zones between major volatility tiers.
Can I change the reset time for different markets?
Yes, you can manually input the reset time in the "NY Session Start" field using the HHMM format to align with your specific market's opening hours.
