Smart Money Concepts (SMC) with MACD Signals
Aug 22, 2024

The Smart Money Concepts (SMC) with MACD Signals indicator integrates institutional price level analysis with momentum tracking to provide comprehensive market entry and exit signals.
Usage
The indicator is designed to help traders identify high-probability zones and momentum shifts. It functions by overlaying two distinct analytical frameworks:
Smart Money Concepts (SMC) This component identifies anchor levels based on lookback periods and volatility multipliers. When price interacts with these calculated zones, it suggests areas where institutional participants may be active.
- SMC Buy Signal: Occurs when the price crosses over the lower anchor level, suggesting a potential bullish reversal from a value zone.
- SMC Sell Signal: Occurs when the price crosses under the upper anchor level, indicating a potential bearish rejection from a premium zone.
MACD Momentum The MACD component tracks trend strength and direction.
- MACD Buy Signal: Generated when the MACD line crosses above the signal line.
- MACD Sell Signal: Generated when the MACD line crosses below the signal line.
Traders can use these features in tandem: for example, looking for a MACD crossover that occurs within an SMC support or resistance zone for higher confluence.
Details
The script utilizes a lookback period (lengthSmc) and a range multiplier (multSmc) to dynamically calculate anchor levels. These levels represent institutional "interest zones" derived from historical price ranges. Simultaneously, the indicator calculates the standard MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) using fast, slow, and signal lengths to visualize momentum via histogram and line crossovers.
Settings
SMC Settings
- SMC Length: The lookback period used to determine the highest highs and lowest lows for anchor level calculation.
- SMC Multiplier: A coefficient applied to the price range to define the width and positioning of the SMC anchor zones.
- Show SMC Zones: Toggles the visibility of the anchor lines and background coloring.
- Show SMC Buy/Sell Signals: Toggles the display of labels for signals generated by price interaction with SMC levels.
MACD Settings
- MACD Fast Length: The period for the short-term EMA.
- MACD Slow Length: The period for the long-term EMA.
- MACD Signal Length: The period for the signal line EMA.
- Show MACD Histogram: Toggles the visibility of the momentum histogram.
- Show MACD Signals: Toggles the display of labels for MACD line crossovers.
FAQ
How do I use the SMC and MACD signals together?
A common approach is to wait for the price to reach an SMC anchor level (identifying a key price zone) and then wait for a MACD crossover in the same direction to confirm momentum before entering a trade.
What do the background colors represent?
Background highlights indicate that the price has moved beyond the calculated SMC anchor levels, signaling that the market is in a potential reversal or extension zone.
