The Flow Optimized Moving Average is constructed using several quantitative components to ensure it remains responsive yet smooth:
- Efficiency Ratio (ER): This ratio measures the effectiveness of price movement by comparing the total price change over a lookback period to the sum of absolute bar-to-bar changes. A higher ER indicates a trending market, while a lower ER indicates a choppy or ranging market.
- Adaptive Smoothing: The smoothing constant (SC) for the AMA is derived from the ER. It scales between user-defined fast and slow periods, allowing the average to speed up during efficient trends to reduce lag and slow down during noise to avoid whipsaws.
- Normalized Slope: The trend strength is determined by calculating the slope of the AMA and normalizing it against the Average True Range (ATR). This ensures that trend strength is measured relative to current market volatility rather than absolute price points.

Core Parameters
- ER Lookback: (Default: 10) The number of bars used to calculate the Efficiency Ratio.
- Fast Period: (Default: 2) The fastest smoothing period used by the AMA when the market is highly efficient.
- Slow Period: (Default: 30) The slowest smoothing period used by the AMA when the market is inefficient or noisy.
Volatility and Trend
- ATR Period: (Default: 14) The lookback period for the Average True Range calculation used for bands and slope normalization.
- Band Multiplier: (Default: 1.5) Controls the distance of the upper and lower bands from the Adaptive MA.
- Slope Average Period: (Default: 5) Smooths the calculated slope to provide a more stable visual representation of trend strength and direction.
