Swing Reversal Indicator
Dec 5, 2020

The Swing Reversal Indicator tool aims to identify potential pivot points on a chart by detecting shifts in momentum through price action analysis. It highlights specific reversal opportunities when a candle exceeds the previous bar's range and closes within a specified extreme area of its own range.
Usage
The Swing Reversal Indicator is designed to find directional trading opportunities in equities, forex, and options markets. A signal is generated when three conditions are met:
- Liquidity Grab: The current price takes out the previous candle's high (for shorts) or low (for longs).
- Range Expansion: The current candle's range is larger than the previous candle's range, indicating increased market activity.
- Closing Momentum: The price closes within a specific percentage of the candle's extreme (upper portion for longs, lower portion for shorts).
Traders can use these signals in conjunction with other technical tools, such as Bollinger Band extremes, to identify high-probability setups. The indicator allows users to customize the visual character used for signals and toggle long or short signals independently.
Details
The script evaluates price action based on volatility and close placement relative to the range. By requiring the current candle's range to be larger than the previous one, the script filters for expansion moves. The "Candle Area" setting is crucial as it defines the threshold for "momentum." For example, a 0.25 setting means a long signal only triggers if the close is in the top 25% of the candle's total range. This ensures that the reversal shows strong conviction before a signal is plotted.
Settings
- Candle Area: Adjusts the sensitivity of the close requirement. A smaller value requires a more extreme close (tightens the trigger), while a larger value allows for more flexibility (loosens the trigger).
- Show Shorts: Toggles the visibility of bearish reversal signals.
- Show Longs: Toggles the visibility of bullish reversal signals.
- Long Icon: Sets the character displayed on the chart for long signals.
- Short Icon: Sets the character displayed on the chart for short signals.
FAQ
How do I use the Swing Reversal Indicator?
You can use it to identify potential trend reversals or pivot points. Look for signals that align with key support/resistance levels or overbought/oversold conditions on other indicators.
Does the indicator repaint?
As the script evaluates price action in real-time, the signal may appear and disappear while the current candle is still open. It is recommended to wait for the candle to close to confirm the signal.
How can I access the Swing Reversal Indicator?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
