The _CM_Ultimate_MA_MTF_V4 indicator provides a versatile multi-timeframe moving average toolkit designed to identify trend direction and potential crossover signals across various timeframes.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used, particularly in identifying trend momentum and confluence between different timeframes. Users can plot up to two distinct moving averages (Fast and Slow) and apply different calculation methods to each.
Common use cases include:
- Trend Following: Using a single higher-timeframe Fast MA to determine the primary trend on a lower-timeframe chart.
- Crossover Strategies: Enabling both the Fast and Slow MA to identify bullish or bearish shifts when the shorter period crosses the longer period.
- Dynamic Support/Resistance: Utilizing the multi-timeframe capability to see where major averages from higher timeframes (e.g., Daily 200 SMA) sit on intra-day charts.
- Visual Analysis: Applying the "Fill" feature and slope-based coloring to quickly assess momentum strength without reading price action alone.
Details
The script utilizes request.security to fetch data from different timeframes, allowing the moving averages to remain consistent regardless of the current chart's resolution. It supports eight different moving average types: Simple (SMA), Exponential (EMA), Weighted (WMA), Hull (HMA), Volume Weighted (VWMA), Running (RMA), Triple Exponential (TEMA), and Tilson T3.
The coloring logic is dual-purpose: it can either reflect the slope of the Fast MA (rising vs. falling) or its position relative to the Slow MA. The slope calculation includes a "Smoothing" parameter to prevent rapid color flickering during consolidations.
Settings
Fast MA
- Fast MA TimeFrame: Sets the timeframe for the Fast MA calculation.
- Fast MA Length: The lookback period for the Fast MA.
- Fast MA Source: The price data used for the calculation (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
- Fast MA Type: Selects the mathematical model (SMA, EMA, etc.).
- Fast MA Tilson T3 Factor: Adjusts the damping factor specifically for the Tilson T3 calculation.
Slow MA
- Show Slow MA?: Toggles the visibility of the second moving average.
- Slow MA TimeFrame: Sets the timeframe for the Slow MA.
- Slow MA Length/Source/Type: Standard parameters for the second moving average.
Plot Settings
- Change Fast MA Color Based On Slope?: Colors the Fast MA based on whether it is currently rising or falling.
- Color Smoothing: Determines the lookback period used to define if the slope is up or down, reducing noise.
- Change Fast MA Color Above/Below Slow MA?: Colors the Fast MA based on its position relative to the Slow MA.
- Show Fill?: Enables a shaded background between the two moving averages.
- Transparency: Controls the opacity of the fill area.
Alerts
- Fast MA Slope Bull/Bear: Enables alerts for when the Fast MA changes direction.
- Fast MA Cross Bull/Bear: Enables alerts for when the Fast MA crosses above or below the Slow MA.
FAQ
How do I change the moving average type? Navigate to the settings menu under the "Fast MA" or "Slow MA" groups and use the "Type" dropdown to select between the eight available options like EMA, Hull MA, or TEMA.
Why does the moving average look like a flat line? This usually occurs if the "TimeFrame" setting is significantly higher than your current chart timeframe or if the length is set to an extremely high value.
