Dap's Oscillator- Short Term Momentum and Trend.
Aug 11, 2022

The Dap's Oscillator indicator provides a comprehensive view of short-term momentum and trend direction by analyzing the relationship between multiple moving average types and their standard deviations. This tool aims to assist traders in identifying high-probability entry points by filtering market noise through a complex averaging process and momentum differentials.
Usage
The Dap's Oscillator is designed to be used alongside volatility metrics (such as the BBWP) to confirm trend strength and potential exhaustion. It features three primary components:
- DAP's Oscillator (Aqua Line): This represents the core trend value derived from a series of moving average equations and covariant analysis.
- RC Average (Yellow Line): A Simple Moving Average (SMA) of the DAP's Oscillator that serves as a baseline for trend smoothing and signal filtering.
- Momentum Oscillator (Green/Red Line): The most critical component, displaying momentum relative to the oscillators. Green indicates positive momentum, while red indicates negative momentum.
Traders should look for divergences between price action and the momentum line to identify potential reversals. It is recommended to exercise caution during consolidation phases, as the momentum line may converge with the DAP's Oscillator, leading to potential false signals.
Details
The script constructs its signals through several layers of calculation:
- Differential Analysis: It calculates the difference between Simple Moving Averages (SMA) and Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) across twenty different lengths ranging from 5 to 250 periods.
- Standard Deviation: It computes the standard deviation of these differences to account for historical volatility within the sampled periods.
- Averaging Array: These values are processed through an extensive averaging array (Positive and Negative "DOC" variables) to isolate the trend.
- Momentum Extraction: The final momentum line is derived by equating covariants against the variants of the positive side of the array, resulting in a responsive short-term trend indicator.
Settings
Pivot Value
- Look Forward Length: The number of bars to look ahead for pivot point calculation.
- Look Back Length: The number of bars to look back for historical reference in pivot point calculation.
Oscillator Length
- DAP's Oscillator: Adjusts the period length used for the primary DAP calculation.
RC Moving Average
- RC Average Length: Sets the length of the yellow RC average line, used for smoothing the DAP's Oscillator.
FAQ
How do I interpret the colors of the momentum line? The momentum line changes to green when the current value is bullish relative to the oscillator baseline and turns red when the value is bearish, signaling short-term trend shifts.
Can this indicator be used on any timeframe? While designed for short-term momentum, it can be applied to various timeframes; however, it is most effective on timeframes where trends and momentum shifts are clearly defined.
How can I access Dap's Oscillator? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
