The 3x MTF Moving Average Zones indicator provides a multi-timeframe overlay of three customizable moving averages designed to identify dynamic support/resistance and trend structure across different time horizons.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze price action through higher-timeframe confluence. Users can project longer-term trends onto lower-timeframe charts, such as viewing a 15-minute or 1-hour moving average while trading on a 1-minute chart. This helps in identifying reaction areas where price is likely to bounce or consolidate.

Key applications include:

  • Trend Context: Determining the primary trend direction by observing the slope and positioning of higher-timeframe averages.
  • Dynamic Support/Resistance: Utilizing the averages as zones for pullbacks and potential entries.
  • Zone Analysis: Visualizing the area between two moving averages as a "zone" of interest for trend continuation or reversal.
  • Alert Management: Setting notifications for when price touches a specific moving average, with built-in cooldowns to prevent notification spam during consolidation.

Details

The script is constructed to handle multi-timeframe (MTF) data fetching through specific request methods. It offers a "Confirmed HTF" toggle which determines whether the indicator displays the last closed value of the higher timeframe (to prevent repainting) or the live, developing value.

The "Zone" feature is implemented using background fills between the primary moving averages. By filling the space between MA 1 and MA 2, or MA 2 and MA 3, the tool highlights price bands that often act as support or resistance "clouds" rather than single price points. The alert system tracks the bar index of the last touch to ensure that alerts are only triggered again after a user-defined cooldown period has elapsed.

Settings

General

  • Use Confirmed HTF Values: When enabled, the script uses the closed value from the higher timeframe to prevent repainting.

MA 1 / 2 / 3

  • Show MA: Toggles the visibility of the specific moving average.
  • Source: Determines the price input used for calculation (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
  • Type: Selects the calculation method: SMA, EMA, WMA, or SMMA (RMA).
  • Length: Sets the lookback period for the moving average.
  • Timeframe: Defines the timeframe for the calculation. If left empty, it defaults to the current chart timeframe.
  • Color / Width: Customizes the visual appearance of the line.

MA Zones

  • Fill between MA 1 and MA 2: Enables a color fill between the first two averages.
  • Fill between MA 2 and MA 3: Enables a color fill between the second and third averages.
  • Fill Color: Customizes the transparency and hue of the zone fills.

Alerts

  • MA touch cooldown bars: Sets the number of bars that must pass before a touch alert can trigger again for that specific moving average.

FAQ

How do I use this to find trend reversals? You can look for price exhaustion near a higher-timeframe moving average combined with lower-timeframe candle patterns or oscillators to identify potential reversal points.

Does this indicator repaint? By default, the "Use Confirmed HTF Values" setting is enabled, which ensures the indicator uses closed higher-timeframe data to prevent repainting.
